I finally got my new computer this week and have been uploading my information into it. I finally finished a render (Saving Graces REDUX) that my old peanut PC couldn't handle. On the old one it took two low quality renders that took 15 hrs total. On the new one, it took TWO HOURS! WOWEE!:omg:  I love that! It's a Dell XPS 6 core, 12 Gig of RAM, 1.5 Terabyte hard-drives, 64 bit system.  Finally after four years, my Social Security disability came in. So I splurged. I had a coupon, Dell was running a 30% off sale and the state of Tennessee had a Tax-free weekend. It ended up almost $1500 OFF the final price.  So I got $3000 worth of computer

In the words of one of the FEMA directors: "NEVER in the history of American disaster has there been such a grass-roots response from the area of a disaster! In Nashville, alone over eighteen thousand people have applied for FEMA aid. Just from "Hands-On-Nashville"(local charity) there have been over 182,676 volunteers registered and have been working over the last week. Apparently at least that many unregistered people have been helping out. This has been the the most massive recovery effort we have been aware of! It is almost like the collective will of the area is powering the clean up. Over 150,000 TONS of junked appliances, belongings and

Underwater. That's the word for the city in which I live:Nashville,Tennessee. We had record-breaking rain (13.5 inches) over the May 1&2 weekend. We flooded. BIG time. We had over 12500 police responses,1250 water rescues (NOT counting the Hundreds of CIVILIAN water rescues!) and over 2265 fire responses over the weekend. 39 people died. Downtown will be without power for the week. The Metro Transit Authority public bus service is NOT running this week because their buses are UNDERWATER! The AT&T and Comcast offices locally were in Metroplex office park, which went underwater when the Levee broke Sunday morning at 6:15AM. That knocked out mos

Joel had become a good friend for my son Marcel (badfinger.deviantart.com/journ…). They only knew about deviantart. New Year's Eve 2008 they wanted to spend together in America with my second son. Unfortunately my son died in June 2008. I then had short time contact to Joel and was deeply impressed by him. As often as I think of the friendship of the two, I also visit Joel's side.
I'm so sorry for your loss as well. I'm glad we both got to talk to Joel at least once.
I imagine Joel and Marcel have long since met where they are now. And I believe that they are doing well.

Best regards!
I suspected this too.  I am really sad to see it confirmed.  I haven't been here in a while, but followed a link of another friend's work, and as I always have done when here, checked Joel's site.  I read and communicated with him on another site, and whenever I got an email that he had posted a new image, I felt a rush of excitement.  His characters and his development and interaction of them, were wonderful.  When we corresponded, we wrote mostly about his work.  I didn't know him really well, but I miss his presence in my life.  I miss his humor, and miss reading new work from him very much.   I am a longtime fan of rereading favorite works, and I will be rereading his many times.

Thank you for posting the obituary link.
It still hurts. I knew him well; we chatted almost every day and then he was just... gone. I came back to look at his page again today since I know his birthday just passed (June 30). Wish I knew him better, though. I learned a lot about story-telling from him. His stories are terribly underrated. If only the world knew!

You're welcome.
For those who do not know, here is Joelglaine's obituary. tnobit.tributes.com/show/Gary-… It took me a long time to find it, but there it is.

I still can't believe it. And I wish I had known sooner. The last I'd heard, at the end of 2010, Joel was in not such a good condition. My guess is that he'd ended up in the hospital for a few weeks afterward and finally passed away in January.

This is really rough. And I still can't believe it. If anyone here wants to talk about Joel, send me a PM or just say it here.

Rest in peace, Joel. I'm gonna miss you, you old fart. And I'll always be back here to re-read your stories. They are the best.
*sigh*

For 5 years i had suspected this... now i know.

Thank you for posting the obituary link.
