I've been away from deviantART for a bit due to being buried under a new 135 painting MARVEL MASTERPIECES trading card set. It's been over 20 years since the first one (1992) and I've always wanted to do a follow up. Obviously I can't post any of the art that Upper Deck hasn't released but there are a few pieces in the attached article link. Having a blast and can't wait for everyone to see them! Release date is early 2015. I'll announce a solid date when I have one. Hope everyone is well, and I'll be back in force when this job is done in January! upperdeckblog.com/2014/07/uppe…

Been away for most of the summer due to work, convention traveling and family stuff (including my first real vacation in almost ten years). Happy to be back!

THANK YOU ALL for all the nice birthday wishes. That you would take time out of your day to send me a greeting means so much. :-)

If someone named "katriki' posts a link on your page DON'T click it. It's most probably a hacker or virus. I just got a post that supposedly links to "girls with big boobs" (Ooooooo!). I checked out the Profile page and sure enough it's blank. BEWARE!!!
I also reported the comment as Spam.

While he majority of responses to last week's issue with my uncredited Vampi art being claimed by another party were supportive, there were those that did not fully understand what the problem was or why it needed to be addressed.

Here are links to a pretty egregious example of not crediting the original (and true) creator of the art,

and a follow up posting by someone who worked in the Rights and Infringements department at DC Comics.

Apparently the Vampi Flash has been removed. Thank you everyone for your support. I realize it's a rampant practice here on DA but that doesn't mean we should turn our heads to the issue. Should any of you have the same problem you'll have my support.

Peace.

Hopefully DA will do something about this now that I've contacted them.

Thanks to Serhan for pointing this out.

This is a very sad day....

It was not long ago that I introduced all of you to the wonderful work my friend Minck Oosterveer.  minckoosterveer.deviantart.com…
Sadly, I must now inform you all of his most untimely passing. Minck was killed in a motorcycle accident in his native Netherlands this past Saturday.

Just a quick perusal of his gallery evidences the remarkable talent he had. His mark on European comics is well documented and he was on the cusp of much wider acclaim here in the United States due to his work with Mark Waid on The Unknown for BOOM! and more recently on Spider-Man for Marvel Comics. He was about to begin what surely would have been a memorable run as the artist on The Shadow for Dynamite Entertainment. I know it would have rocked because Minck was a master when it came to designing black space in his art and The Shadow is a project tailor made for his particular skills.  From a professional POV the industry is much poorer for his loss.

From a personal perspective I have lost a good friend. Minck was one of those rare people of whom one could find nothing bad to say. For all his talent and experience he was one of the most kind and humbly modest people I knew. Linda and I first met him during a European signing tour a couple of years ago and instantly bonded with him. He and I both shared a love for the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs (especially the Mars series) and became even closer this past summer when he did the con circuit here in the US. We caught the Green Lantern movie together in Albuqueque and finished off the night closing down the hotel bar. I was fortunate enough to snatch two pages of original art from him at the con and will cherish them for years to come (If I can figure out how to attach the art to this journal I will).

He was a gentleman, a true talent and most of all my friend.

Both Linda and I are devastated by this news.

Rest in Peace, Minck. You were taken way too soon.

For all those following the tutorial, I apologize if some of the questions you've asked are seemingly being ignored. I've answered a good many from my iPhone and have just come to realize that they haven't logged on the actual site. wtf?  I'll get back to answering them again as soon as I have the time. :-)

On the topic of questions about my process; before asking a question PLEASE read through not only the descriptions that accompany each image but the comments and answers below as there is a good possibility you'll find what you need there. I simply do not have the time to repeatedly answer the same questions once I've already done so. In this instance the answers aren't there like they should be but repeat questions about such things have been a common occurrence in the past. I like doing these but there's only so much time I can dedicate to them. :-(

One thing about tutorials; they are not meant as a directive on how YOU should do things but simply to show one possible solution (my solution). I've built  techniques that work for ME by reading many artist's technique books over the years and picking maybe one thing out of them that I could somehow integrate into my own process, but mostly by trial and error. If you find a better way that works for you by all means USE IT. There is no "right or wrong way". The results are all that matter.

Best,

Joe

Good friend and superb Artist Minck Oosterveer is now on DA! Minck is (well deserved) hot shit in Europe and his native Neterlands and is quickly becoming a star in the US, particularly due to his collaboration with Mark Waid on THE UNKNOWN for BOOM! tinyurl.com/3bfecyt and his new work for Marvel Comics. His long running Nicky Saxx adventure strip tinyurl.com/3m7cj2k is awesome as well!  He's a master at spotting blacks and is really versatile in all genres!

Check him out on DA. I think you'll like him!

A new page named HEROICART OIL PAINTINGS www.facebook.com/pages/HEROICA… popped up on Facebook where someone (I believe the "we" is one guy trying to sound like a company) is selling direct rip offs of art by dozens of established pros, myself included. You'll find Cat Staggs, Boris Vallejo, Alex Ross, Frank Frazetta and many others' work raped by this fucknut.

Example; MY Batman Piece-
fav.me/d1r0kcp

THEIR Batman Ripoff Piece-
www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi…

I sent a note to Facebook's COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT DIVISION this morning (see below). I suggest anyone else who's art is on there (or those who just find this practice distasteful) do the same.

[ HEROICART OIL PAINTINGS is a Facebook page that is selling unauthorized repaints of commercial and copyrighted artwork by both me and many other established and popular artists in the comic book field. There are at least two pieces of mine (including a BATMAN that is posted in a link on my wall. EVERY piece of art on that page was created by someone else and copied without legal right or permission by the persons at HEROICART OIL PAINTINGS. I'm sure you will be hearing from other parties concerning this page in the immediate future. I would respectfully request this page be shut down for massive and wide ranging copyright infringement. I have been an internationally known professional artist for 35 years and have worked for every major publisher in that time. I honed my craft over those years to a high standard and having someone copy that work for profit is a direct violation of not only my rights but the rights of every company who owns the copyright on those characters. NO credit is given to the original artist or parent companies as well.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Joe Jusko ]

Well, we returned the laptop for service. I included a lengthy letter of dissatisfaction and a complete printout of our discussions here on DA. We received it back in about 10 days and all seems to be working properly. According to the report it was a hard drive issue from the start so here's hoping they fully corrected it and there will be no further problems.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE INPUT AND ADVICE!!!!  It was really helpful and I'm sure that reading through our discussions went a long way toward them doing the right thing. :-)

As per the usual, you are all great people!!!

Best,

Me

Thanks for all the insight and advice, everyone! This place is a font of knowledge. :-) After a ridiculous amount of debate with a numerous imbecilic service reps they agreed to let us send it back after FINALLY getting through to a supervisor. They did NOT guarantee that it wouldn't come back in the same condition, though. What-the fuck. I have this image of it sitting on a counter unopened for several weeks and then getting a return shipping label slapped on it. lol I'll let you know what happens.

Hi, all!

i have an issue with an Alienware laptop I bought my stepson for college several months back. It hasn't worked properly since we got it and we've done everything Alienware tech support has asked us to do. It's become a problem, especially since Alienwate simply will not let us return it for service. I'll let Brennan explain the issues and the steps he's taken to correct the problems based on what we've been instructed to do. Apparently even RIT's tech guys can't get it to work properly. If anyone here uses Alienware or better yet WORKS for them I'd love to hear from you. Here's Brennan.

-Blue Screen occurs when trying to log in. Error Code 0x00000101, clock interrupt code not receive on secondary processor in the allocate time interval.
-Have reset Bios
-Have updated Bios
-Wiped Hard Drive twice and reinstalled operation system twice
-Ran check disk and system file checks
-Have run anti-virus scans and spyware scans
-Have been told by Dell to take the RAM out and Put it back in and try turning it on with each one seeing if thats the problem. Work fine for bout a week and then problem occurred again
-Cant System Restore, get another, different, Blue Screen during the process
-Dell has tried to increase the allocated memory for the RAM that did nothing
-RIT tech support has run HDAT2 tests and memtest. Reinstalled Drivers. Updated Windows.
-Computer freezes sometimes when it ask if you went to skip the ChkDsk
-PC sometimes appears to be stuck in sleep mode
-RIT tech support ran MWB, Spybot and McAfee
-Display on Screen sometimes just goes black and when you move the mouse or touchpad nothing seems to wake it back up, forced to hard reboot
-Ran CCleaner and SAS Portable

Okay, I know there's a lot here but right now we're looking at a 3K paperweight so if you DO know these computers advice is definitely appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your attention.

I Want To Thank EVERYONE Who Took The Time To Help My Family Out Yesterday.

While responding to every comment and message individually is a bit prohibitive at this time please be assured that I HAVE READ EVERY POST and my family, especially my brother, could not be more touched by the outpouring of concern. It's is a sad reality that we needed to mount such an effort and bring the Hammer of God down on them to rectify something that should never have been an issue in the first place. Don't be fooled by the seemingly altruistic post on the GAWKER site concerning the photo's removal. Remy Stern was adamant in his refusal to remove the picture before last night. The credit for it's removal lies solely at the feet of all of you who took the time to voice your disgust and revulsion at such irresponsible yellow journalism in it's worst incarnation. Special thanks to Jacob J. Young of Young Social Media for his efforts on behalf of our family. He was majorly instrumental in getting the photo removed, and thanks to my friend Dave Dorman for referring this situation to him, They have my eternal gratitude.

You are all the most amazing people.
