Planet of the Apes DOG TAGS by JoeJusko Planet of the Apes DOG TAGS by JoeJusko
Here;s the finished piece for the new Apes novel (told from Landon's POV instead of Taylor's) that will be out next year. I've now been told it's going to be a limited edition print that will be handed out with replicas of Landon's dog tags at the San Diego Comicon this year. Incidentally, Taylor doesn't look like Charlton Heston because the publisher unfortunately doesn't have likeness approval for him.

This painting is amazing! You should do the covers for any future Planet of the Apes books, like Rich Handley's Apes encyclopedia (hassleinbooks.com--there's no info yet about that title, but it has been mentioned online).

Excellent (and I'm guessing time consuming) work on the dog tags. :)

The chain was simple but scribing the letters was a pain in the c*ck.

The hardest part was figuring out how to get the scribed lettering to look like it was cut into the metal.

I call them as I see them.
In my book Joe, you are one of the MOST talented artists working in the business. And I am particularly partial to traditional materials artist, especially those who can paint with the skill that you do.

I think you captured the look and feel of the original movie perfectly here Joe!! Really top notch work!!
And just as expected going into the All-Star break a tie for first place in the division!! Do you think Halliday will end up with either team??

Awesome cover! I wish the original film's budget would've allowed for that lightning storm background in it. It definitely would've made us think we were on an alien planet even more. Loved the movie and still do, but I most vividly remember having the biggest crush on Nova (Linda Harrison) back in my teens. My biggest regret was having paid money to watch Tim Burton's travesty and me not having an Alpha-Omega warhead to try to take out Fox Studios. :stupidme: Oh well, a fool and his money are soon parted. Great job on the cover. It really brings home the anger and isolation those astronauts felt after crash landing. :D
