It's kinda hard to comment here, but I hope it's clear that this is not the end of Rain's statement.  I could have made this a two-pager with the next one, but I kinda felt like this page and the next needed a little bit of breathing room.

Like, I realize it's all a lot to take in, and Rain's "brutally honest" point can be a tough pill to swallow.  When we're sad or angry or grieving or anxious, it's so easy to get impatient and want to be over it already.  We want that quick and easy solution, but sometimes it's just not quick or easy.  Sometimes there's not even a solution.

And starting this arc for Emily, the hardest part was accepting that I couldn't solve this quickly or easily.  That although I would need to "finish" this arc at some point, I felt it would be disingenuous to tie a neat little bow on it and say everything's just dandy now.  Because no matter what, when this section of the story passes - even if we never talk about her mother again - Emily will still carry the weight of what her mother did to her.  Just like Rain's still burdened by what her father did.  It's still there.  Those effects linger.  The wounds close at some point, but sometimes the scar remains.

And I know this is all a huge bummer, but I want to be clear that I'm not saying Emily can't ever get past this.  I am saying it's gonna take time.  More time than I can even go into in a chapter spanning like half a day at most.

Fortunately, in the meantime, distractions can help, as they have for Rain and Emily just a few pages ago.  And the other good news is the other part of what Rain said.  Emily is free to get to know herself now.  That will also take time.  Maybe years.  But she doesn't have to go it alone.  And Rain's also just beginning her journey of self-discovery too.  As they get to know who they really are and who they will be - together - the burden of their abusive parents may eventually lessen.

It's not quick.  It's not easy.  But they'll survive and they'll overcome.

We'll survive and we'll overcome.  We're all in this together.  :)
