100 Characters Challenge

Every year, I try to draw something nice for my birthday and post it. I call it “my birthday gift to myself for you”. My birthday is not actually until this upcoming Wednesday, but I decided to post this today (I don’t like posting more than one pic a day, and my birthday is a “Rain” day and I have something planned for the day before too). Anyway, this was a bit of a side project I was working on. If you follow me on DA, I actually mentioned finally finishing it about two weeks ago after nearly six months of on/off progress. So, I’m proud to finally present this and I hope you’ll enjoy it. ^_^

Now, unfortunately, I can’t begin to give even a brief rundown of all of these characters. It’d take forever and it’d be excessively long and most people wouldn’t read it (or I’d be dropping some serious spoilers). So instead, I’m gonna try something a little fun and different; I’m going to give some nifty statistics based on the characters above (I’m sure most still won’t read it, but the rest of you might have fun with it). As a disclaimer, all numbers mentioned beyond this point ARE subject to change. Not one of the stories is 100% complete (many in fact, are just outlined on paper or in my head), so there’s still time to alter things (in other words, don’t assume you’ll learn any real spoilers from this). Let’s just have some fun:

- I have enough stories and characters that I could do this meme again (I won’t, but I could). Probably twice. That would really start dipping into totally irrelevant side characters and abandoned story ideas though, so it probably doesn’t even count. For this list, I tried to make sure everyone who went on it played a legitimately important role.

- Why, yes. I am the 100th character. I HAVE been in a few of my own stories before, hence the cool outfit I (sadly) don’t actually own. I don’t ever really get a big part, but I’m there all the same. There is actually a character above whose design is based on how I USED to draw myself when I was a teenager too. That character is LESS representative of me though.

- Even though I write a lot of fantasy and sci-fi, my casts are largely human. 83 of the above listed are completely normal humans. And a majority of the left over 17 non-humans are still pretty humanoid. In fact, 4 of them even “started out” human, but are not anymore.

- There are about 13 couples with both persons on the list (as in, there are 26 people on this list who are in love with and enter a relationship with someone else on this list… at least, at some point in the story). There are additionally 15 more characters on this list, whose love interest is NOT included for one reason or another. Beyond that, there are a number of characters that also have unresolved/unclear/unknown love interests as of this writing. This one is difficult to put an exact number on (it’s complicated).

- I focused mainly on protagonists and heroes here, so there are only 10 "villains" on the list (but not all of them are even that bad).

- 34 of the above characters are under eighteen years old. And here I always thought my characters might get older as I did. Anyway, 20 of them are thirty or older (and 5 of them are WELL past natural human ages, ranging from hundreds to thousands of years old).

- All of the characters here range from stories originally conceptualized as far back as 1999 to as recent as 2012 (incidentally, I’ve had no new story ideas this year so far; odd for me, but kind of a relief). Some stories and characters have changed dramatically over time. 12 characters have had their names changed over time. 13 characters have had their sexual orientations change in later planning. 19 have changed in physical appearance (some much more dramatically than others). Just 2 have switched alignment from good to bad and bad to good. And there are even 2 cases of characters who were originally intended to be guys but are now written to be as girls (and for the record, neither one is trans).
