Ten Years

It's been ten years. Learned so much and made awesome friends on this site ❤

Crochet + Groups

Thu Apr 30, 2015, 8:35 AM

I may not have digital 3d artwork to post anymore, but I have physical 3d stuff! I've been doing a lot of crochet recently and feel ready to share a little here. There's a ton of amazing amigurumi on dA and mine doesn't compare, but it's what I do, right? Also blankets and stuff. I have plans. Involving rainbows.

:iconiworkedsohardonthis: - I didn't work so hard on my group, and I really should have. I'd like to find new management for it if possible, but failing that I'll close it. If you're interested in necromancing a group, let me know! Also if you know of any cool craft groups, I'm interested in seeing what's going on.

Devious Journal Entry

Wed Jul 9, 2014, 1:30 PM

I haven't been creating art recently, but I have been appreciating it. I went to the Musée D'Orsay a few weeks ago and really had an amazing time. The Van Goghs took my breath away. I don't think I can say in words how they made me feel, they were so alive and immediate and if you get the chance to go and see them in person, do!

I have been crafting recently. I don't know why I don't put pictures of my crochet on dA - maybe because I normally follow other people's patterns? Or because I don't think you all will want to see it? Or cos I'm too lazy to photograph it properly?  I guess I might put a picture up of what I'm making now, because it's all mine.

I want to start taking photos again. I forgot how much I loved trying macros, I guess it was hard for me to continue after my mother died as she grew the flowers but who knows. Maybe I'm ready now.

Meanwhile, fee free to catch up with me on my instagram x

I miss this

...but I still can't do 3d due to lacking a computer that doesn't overheat when I render.

So in the meantime, much crocheting, and some jewellery making. I can't wait to make stuff in 3d again though.

Happy Birthday dA.

To the $staff, enjoy this year.

Next year the site becomes a teenager.

Be afraid.

Fri Jul 6, 2012, 2:07 PM

I wish to do 3D. Laptop wishes to overheat.
Laptop wins this round. :|

Instead, I will craft ALL THE THINGS.

Also, it turns out that London is in Mordor D:

Londoners out there, BE CAREFUL AND AVOID THE EYE.

Fri Apr 20, 2012, 3:28 AM

I am a perfectionist, but I think it's getting worse, to the point where I can barely finish any art anymore.

I haven't had a lot of time for poser recently, and amongst other things on my list of things to do is re-render Bella with better hair. I'm aiming to do it at the weekend.

However today I am working on something else.  One of the problems I'm running into is my character's lipstick. I want it to be pink. But this is the problem with the texture I am using:

Now I wear makeup very rarely, but as far as I know, lipstick doesn't repel the blood from your lips as well as colouring them. I don't believe that where the colour is less intense your lips go grey.

I don't think I used to notice things like this. And it's an older texture, so maybe the artist was less experienced. Either way I have now spent a lot of time repainting lipstick on the texture to make it look even slightly as though it's based in physical reality. Don't get me started on bump maps. One texture artist I love clearly has NO CLUE what they do or how to set them up.

I wind up spending so much time bogged down in details like this, I lose the will to live before I finish anything :/ Is it just me? (I wouldn't be surprised if it was XD)

Mouse Mat

Tue Mar 20, 2012, 7:19 AM

I am feeling retro (technology wise), and my current mousemat is dying. Admittedly I use it a coaster quite a bit. Thinking of getting a dA one. Have you seen/created any art I should have on my mouse mat?

Also thank you all for the kind birthday wishes last week. Had a fab time ♥ Stayed in Wales for a couple of nights and took some new stock which will be gracing joannastar-stock by the weekend I hope.

isn't it annoying when you find out something you wished you didn't? the way you can't un-know stuff? ._.

CI: Mauve Features!

Mon Jan 23, 2012, 3:21 AM

shelldevil is doing a community interraction project in her journal - 30 days to help us break out of our little circles of friends, and find new art and new people to interact with. You can find out all about it in her journal here:… and the first task is here:

Task 1: Using the SEARCH function, Find 5 deviations that stand out and also feature your FAVOURITE COLOUR and leave a comment on them.
I thought I'd feature them in my journal too ^^

Go and interract ♥

If my cat could talk...

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 18, 2012, 9:42 AM
My cat Jim has just been diagnosed with kidney problems. He's lost a lot of weight, he won't eat and he's been quite down. I'm worried about him :/ I miss my mum every day but on days like this its even worse; he was her cat and I think he still misses her.

I wish he could talk, and understand me. Then he could tell me what hurts and understand when I try to get him to eat...

Drowning D:

My devwatch is swamping me. There are so many deviations and I don't know what to click on! D: I am going try to work out what changes to my devwatch I want to make so that I can keep up with it. In the meantime, though, if you want me to comment on your deviation, link it up here. I'll try to say something constructive, but I'm somewhat out of practice in doing anything other than saying 'ooh! pretty!", but rest assured that if I say that, I mean it. I'll leave this open at least through today (the 11th). I don't imagine there will be all that many of you though, so I may leave it open longer.

Limit one per deviant. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer ;P

Sat Jan 7, 2012, 3:07 AM

My cat is sulking with me. The reason? I don't think a sharp metal nail that she nicked off the windowsill is an ideal cat toy and I confiscated it. Since then she has tried to play with those annoying ribbons you get int tops these days with no purpose other than to attempt to stick out while you're wearing them and embarrass you, and a 20p.

I wish I'd spent tons of money on cat toys for her. Oh wait...

I miss the news...

Thu Nov 10, 2011, 6:50 AM

...and I miss old journals. I don't think writing this will bring them back, but yeah. I think I wanted, if I ever said, "OMG I LOVE THIS JOURNAL I WISH I COULD FAV IT" that I wished I could *heart* it like I did with news and it would show up in that same area, or a similar area, not mixed in with art. Art is what I'm here for. I miss seeing the 'daily literature deviations' on the bottom of the site. I miss knowing that if I took time to get a feature together, like I used to when I was a GM and before, I would be able to get it seen across the site if I put some effort into publicising it, and the artists in the feature would benefit.
I also miss being able to get to someone's whole journal they have written with ease. I actually read one of the journals in the footer this morning, and thought, ooh, I'd like to read this person's previous journal... but there was no obvious link to it. I miss knowing that my journal boxes will appear next to what I'm typing when you read this.

In other news, 18535 words in my nano novel. I can't begin to describe how much editing will be needed to transform it into something halfway readable. CAN'T BEGIN.
In other other news, I am going to a wedding tomorrow. Demoncherry's in fact! EXCITE. :la:

Wherein I prepare to write...

Fri Oct 28, 2011, 3:23 PM

So... Nano is coming up. aunjuli has bullied me into doing it again this year. I'm anxious to start, and also scared. Anyone else doing it?

I have one or two art projects on the go, and I have been crocheting a lot, but not finishing all that much. I'm a bit uninspired by the whole Daz vs Smith Micro thing, Genesis and Victoria 5. I don't really care who's to blame or not, but I don't have time or inclination to learn Daz Studio (I have tried. I just don't find it intuitive. Others clearly do better than me). So until there's a version for poser, I won't really be buying any new Daz stuff. I daresay I'll find other things to spend my money on. Ah well. If they sort it out while I'm nanoing, all good. If not, no more platinum club for me.

Love! ♥

dA Dreams

Mon Aug 1, 2011, 1:34 AM

I had a dream about dAmn last night. I dreamed that it had been transformed into a virtual reality environment. And for some reason I had to try to talk to the $staff about a girl I was worried about cos I thought she was being abused irl. Quite why I didn't jus tattempt to contact the police in that circumstance, or allow myself to get quite as sidetracked in my quest as I did in the dream, I don't know.  But. It was pretty cool. There were sofas and everything but what people were saying turned up in speech bubbles the colour of the dA background.

I think that this is a sign that I need to do more art. Or get out more. Or something.

Thu Jul 14, 2011, 4:02 PM

Today was a good day for acquisitions. The first, and awesomest things I acquired to day were from The Fancy Narwal - cute stickers and a small but perfectly formed narwhal notebook. I have yet to decide what to note in it. It must be awesome and fancy to match the levels of awesomeness and fancyness inherant in the notebook itself. Thank you, aunjuli

Second, I went to see really cool singer Allie Moss (UK people would know her from singing the song in the BT infinity ad) and had a fab time, with the added bonus of blueberry lemonade lipbalm that she was selling. OMG IT SMELLS AMAZING. Also you can check her out here

I have moved now, and presently will be arting again - I have a picture in my head, all ready to not come out remotely like I  imagine in real life - and inflicting photos of things I have crocheted on you. LOVE ♥
