JMK here,
Remember the Fox Studios Fantastic 4 movies? Did you all think that one day Marvel will retain the rights to their first family and eventually join the successful MCEU? Well, think again.
So one today I found out, from different You tubers and fans of Marvel, that Fox Studios is thinking of reboot the Fantastic 4 movies, again. And this time, it will be through the eyes of the son and daughter of Mr. Fantastic and Susan Storm (Franklin and Valeria Richards). Hmmm, a superhero team comprised of two kid siblings and two parents/guardians?
Geez, does that sound familiar?

Sequel coming out in 2019

Now, I know what you are all probably thinking? Weren't The Incredibles based of Marvels first family? Well seeing as how Fantastic Four came out in the 20th century and the Incredibles came out in the early 21th century, yeah, but to an extent. Now given that the most recent Fantastic 4 movie was too dark and gritty, making it more kid friendly, funny and light hearted, like they did with the 2003-2005 movies, would save the franchise. But you can not deny the fact that we would see the movie through the eyes of their kids. Unless this is a sequel to the Fan4stic, which I highly doubt, then this idea for a reboot will not make sense. These children aren't probably as popular as say like X-23. They need to be established before you make them them protagonist. I've never even heard of them. And it is not just the premise but also the concept. The idea of making this franchise feel like a Spy Kids movie series is in my opinion, kinda silly. Why? Because, unless this is a cartoon like Marvel Super Hero Friends, a live action version would not cut it. These aren't the parent from Parent Trap, they are the Fantastic f@&!ng 4.

My History with THE FANTASTIC 4

  1. Fantastic Four 2005 - My introduction to the Fantastic 4. Goofy but fun and entertaining.
  2. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - Same opinion as the first movie but with a darker tone. P.S. That was my first introduction to Galactus. Sorry.
  3. Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes - It was fun, it had heart and it was the right blend of action and humor. Dr Doom was menacing. This, to me, was more enticing that the movies.
  4. Fan4stic - When I first watched it last year I thought it was an awesome take on the franchise. That was back in the day when I didn't know any better. I loved how this movie was concerned with the environment. In a way. And how Dr Doom was a goth. I love how different adaptations can take a new spin on the same character. When I watched it again this year, I felt nothing. I mean I realized that the movie was so grim depressing that they literally took out the 'M' out of 'Grimm' and called the Negative Zone Planet 0. Now, I like Dark Comic book movies. (Dark Knight Trilogy) but this isn't dark. It is just emotionless and , as stated by IGN, mediocre. The pacing is weird, the characters aren't credible, the color choices are beautiful but drab, and on top of that I did not laugh. Not when I watched it for the first time nor the second time.
I didn't hate it, but the fans did and to a further extent Marvel certainly did. Marvel was so disappointed with how critically this movie dropped the Ultimate box office bomb, that they did not even put the 2015 movie in their official website. It also the second lowest Ranked Marvel movie on Rotten Tomatoes. If that is not enough. Take a look at this page from The 'Punisher' #12. Emphasis on the word "Punisher". I just can't believe that a movie like this can come from Marvel (owned by Disney) and cause this much hate.

The Fantastic 4 are not just another group of random superheroes, they are a family. I saw that in The World Greatest Heroes animated TV show. They, recently remind me of the Ghost Crew from Star Wars Rebels. And according to fans of the Fantastic 4, they deserve better than how they are being treated FOX. I mean this is the same company who made Deadpool and Logan, two of my favorite FOX movies. I too was hopping for The Fantastic 4 to return to Marvel and probably join the MCEU. If that 2015 reboot didn't say "PLEASE LET US COME BACK TO MARVEL !" then I don't know what will. Oh yeah, probably this latest reboot that is currently in development. Like I said, even of the tone of the movie could come close to the original source material, the idea of rebooting it and making the kids the main heroes is still ludicrous.

SPOILER FOR PUNISHER #12:

I am glad that Micheal B. Jordan was the best actor in the film.

UPDATE JULY 4th 2107

JMK here,
It recently occurred to me that the premise for the latest Fantastic 4 reboot may work if they go the route of Lucasfilms.
Since the premise for this reboot is taking notes from a Pixar film, why not borrow a chapter from the Star Wars book. Introducing Mr. Fantastic's kids in the first movie could work if they have a prequel movie to follow afterwards. That is if this latest addition to the franchise can survive the box office, the verbal slaughter of the critics and the wrath of the fans. So what do you think? Do you think this latest reboot could work or will it hammer the final nail into the coffin that is the Fantastic 4 franchise?

UPDATE JULY 24th 2017*

JMK here,
After the S.D. Comic Con 2017 it is confirmed that the rumored Fantastic 4 reboot is currently in production.

Article:
comicbook.com/marvel/2017/07/2…

It seems that Fox is really not following Sony's lead and lend the 4 back to Marvel studios. It seem they really are going to focus on the kids of Mr. Richards and Susan Storm. But, hey, as I mentioned in my recent update, if the first movie does well at the Box office, it can warrant a prequel. Where we can see the rebooted versions of Mr Fantastic and the Invisible Girl. Just like what Lucasfilms did at the end of the first Star Wars trilogy. Or if they got all Micheal Bay in The Last Knight and give The Human Torch and The Thing less screen time than the Dinobots in said movie then bye bye movie. Unless you count the unreleased Fantastic Four by 1994 then this will be Fox's fourth attempt at a Fantastic 4 movie and their second attempt at a reboot. If you do include the 1994 film, then this will be their fifth attempt at a Fantastic 4 movie and a third attempt at a reboot. And we all know what happens when you have a Fantastic 5th in the team.
So what do you think? Should Fox go ahead with this idea of a reboot or just scrap it and just start production on the other rumored movie starring Doom?

UPDATE AUGUST 28th 2017 - Final Entry

JMK here,
In my previous update I only left a bunch of web links to different articles But, they all say the same thing: The newest reboot of the Fantastic 4 will be based on a Kindergarten book series. Let that sink in as much I has to let this sink in. Now let me make something very clear. This is idea could work if they were making a new Disney Jr. series, staring Marvel characters. That be awesome. Or if this movie was created by Disney's 3-D animation and Marvel studios. But, for a live action reboot of the critically panned Fantastic four franchise? Does this idea sound familiar to you?

Yeah, to me it sound like one of those Disney movies made in the late 20th Century. After the Tim Story movies, people doubted that Fox could ever take the franchise seriously. After Josh Trank's 2015 misfire (Fan4stic), people have had it with Fox's treatment of Fantastic 4. So much so that they made petitions to have the F4 rights gets sent back to Marvel studios and have them join the MCU. Then after news of this latest reboot, being based on the children of Reed and Sue, Marvel fans and F4 fans have reached a point where "Enough's enough". If Constantine Films and 20th Century Fox don't get they act together and actually make a good Fantastic four movie. Then the Fantastic four franchise will be left in the dust. Even if they make a good movie then not many people may watch it. So we could get a good movie but at the same time another Box office flop. Speaking of the MCU, the writers for the 2015 Trank movie took its inspiration from the same palace Marvel Comics was inspired to created their MCU. Ironic since that movie ripped of two scenes from Age of Ultron.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACK KIRBY

Today is the most important day in comic book History. This is the 100th birthday of Jack Kirby, the king of comics and one of the best friends to Stan, the man, Lee himself. Even after he left Marvel or DC comics and even after his death he was honored as one of the most important assets to Disney at D23 this year. I want to take this time to properly honor him by putting to good use what I learned in 'How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way' by Stan Lee. Now considering that this is 100th birthday, do you think Jack Kirby would love seeing his most beloved franchise get battered down like this. Even the Transformers Movie series has more respect and effort put into it than this Franchise. And not just because they are created by the same people (Hasbro) who created the original source material. I bet after this latest reboot, Jack Kirby will truly be rolling in his grave knowing that there is no hope left for the 'First Family of comics'.

Why do so many people still talk about the F4. Even after Marvel discontinued their Comics line and separated them in the 'Secret Wars' event and denied the 2015's movie existence on their official website, and remove them from their online video games, and killed off the main cast, except for Michel B Jordan, in  Nathan Edmondson's Punisher #12, why do people still talk about Fantastic four?

Because the Fantastic four is Marvel.

When Stan Lee created the Fantastic four, he wanted to make them a family not another Justice League, but an ordinary family with unique differences, extraordinary abilities and yest still have to seal with every day problems. This was also clearly evident in Spider-man Homecoming and Spider-man in general. Without the idea of the Fantastic 4 we would have gotten the team and family dynamic of:
The X-Men, The Avengers, and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

If it weren't for them then Marvel wouldn't have that warm family feel that totally separates itself from the somewhat colder godlike DC Comics.
If Marvel is trying get rid of Fantastic four then they are getting rid of themselves. And that's the saddest thing ever. I mean, Marvel is a Hollywood powerhouse right now. And to become a big success while leaving behind your core values that made Marvel awesome in the first place, its just....Star Trek Riker Facepalm

20th Century Fox, you can not be the same company that created a successful Planet of the Apes trilogy, revolutionized the X-men film franchise, brought Deadpool to life and killed off Logan. I mean you can make s us sympathies with CGI apes but not real life actors playing human beings? That 2015 disaster is what you get when you hire a young director (Trank) with only one movie credit. Do you really not care about the F4? The 2015 movie made that accusation quite clear. If your movies are gonna keep bombing at the box office then why keep the Fantastic 4? You could just sell the rights back to Marvel and put more focus on your tonally shifted X-Men franchise. Seriously you've got nothing to lose.

Constantine Films, I barely know anything about you except for the fact that you keep making those crappy Resident Evil movies. Just give the rights back to Marvel you've also got nothing to lose.

Since it looks like neither of these companies are gonna listen to me, or us as a fan community, our best hope is that Disney buys the Fantastic Four back from Fox and Constantine Films. And could they bring the Wolverine back while you are at it? He is done with Fox, so why not have him in the MCU like Quicksilver?

Final Note: So until the New Fantastic Four movie comes out, or the rights go back to Marvel, we still have these sub-par movies that range from passable to awful.

The Fantastic Four are not a grounded team because their own premise comes from adventure and high mad science, so making them realistic as Fan4stick tried to was just stupid, as was yet another terrible take on Doctor Doom. Fox honestly don't get what makes the Fantastic Four work, and for fans of the comics it's annoying but no only do they continued to rush films for the rights but now it's meant that Marvel Comics under the edict of their man child elusive Trumping loving CEO Ike Perlmutter has shafted them in comics and media so violently, cancelling the comic to avoid any source of promotion and taking them out of games they were previously in like Marvel Heroes and the upcoming LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2.

I really hope that Marvel can finally get the rights back and they won't be so toxic by that point to make a movie an impossibility.

Okay. First of all, what I meant by grounded, I meant relate-able. We want to connect with these characters so that we can feel for them when they succeed or fail. We want to be able to feel what they feel. At least the goofy character were relate-able but were not taken seriously enough. The 2015 reboot tried to take them more seriously but none of the characters were relate-able at all. Sorry if my journal wasn't clear on that topic.

Also, the whole PURPOSE of the Fantastic FOUR is whacky, fun, fantastical adventures in science-fiction and family bonds. NONE of that was there.

True. But do not forget that they had a family vibe to them. More than even the Avengers.

You actually liked the las Fantastic Four Movie? Seriously? How old are you?  15? That movie was an offense to the original idea and it was so under developed and the characters didn't have any real chemistry and the whole concept rebooting their personalities was dumb and idiotic. I prefer the previous corny F4 movies rather than this one! At least the old ones followed what we knoew about them from the comicbooks except from Galactus' stupid look. I really think FOX must bury this franchise just like Marvel did with their comicbook. Don't get me wrong, I love the concept of superhero teams but please...don't insult kids but making movies dumb and silly.

What I liked from the 2015 Movie was the concept. It was just that the execution wrecked the movie.

The concept of making the Fantastic 4 story more grounded. The 2003-2005 stuck to the source material but were rather goofy. As audiences grew up, we kinda want a more serious take on the franchise. The term serious, in film making, doesn't automatically necessarily dark and gritty like the Dark Knight. We could have gotten was some acknowledgement from the protagonists that these powers can, to an extent, be a curse. We could have gotten more solid character development, more depth in story telling, higher stakes. I guess that's what Fox tried to do with the 2015 reboot but they kinda over did it. To a point where they suck out the joy and humor of the original source material. What the Fantastic 4 movies really need is to stick in the middle. Not to serious and not to goofy. That's all.

I do agree with you. I really think that even though the old ones were rather goofy they made me feel I was watching a F4 movie while the new one was nothing like the source material.
