Violent and Young - Video

This is the music video I worked on for 'Violent & Young', by Iglu & Hartley. Directed by Henry Scholfield.

I produced the 3D animation in the video, together with the design of the mechanical components and the original design, modelling and rigging of the robotic suit seen throughout the video. The 3D elements had to be carefully combined and synced with hand-drawn 2D animations. I produced all the work for this over 3 weeks back in October '08.

This made it onto the major music channels, including MTV and 4Music.

I hope you enjoy it :)

p.s - I know and agree that the song wont be to everyone's liking, but I didn't get much choice in that. I personally think the video would have suited something a little heavier. But beggars can't be choosers!

I think the video would have suited something heavier too, maybe like Linkin Park's From The Inside but like what they did with Breaking The Habit. But I think this works fine anyway. The animation rocks, and the syncing is perfect. I loved it.

Excellent animation! It really captured the mood for the music, and gave me a deep understanding of a larger story that must be behind it! Good work!

Thanks very much. I just produced the designs and 3D animation in the video though - the director came up with the backstory/idea and there were a few traditional animators who drew the frames up aswell.

It's encouraged me to produce an anime short in future in a 2D/3D vein though, so that's a good thing.

highly impressive, James! :faint:
your skills are so amazing and it's great to see that this video made it onto MTV for i think your work deserves the most attention it can probably get.

Thanks very much Otis! Much appreciated :)

Hopefully it might open up further doors in future for some high profile work...

I have a question about your work - do you produce any designs for websites or applications or do any programming?

unfortunately i don't.
the only app i made designs (skins) for is CD Art Display and luckyly enough there's no coding involved in that at all.
i'd love to learn how to create cool looking websites tho.
it's the lack of time which is actually keeping me away from it.

why are you asking?

I was just wondering - I have a few ideas / projects on the go and i'm keeping my eye out for people with those kinds of skills to assist! :)

man, i'd love to assist you on any project, but i'm afraid i don't have anything useful to offer. :hmm:
i appreciate you taking me into consideration, though.

Really cool video. the 32 fit perfectly with the drawing. That must have been difficult. I personally liked the music also, I thought it worked pretty well with the video.

Thanks very much :)

It was a challenge to get some of the shots to sync and look right, but we got there in the end!

There were many others who worked very hard on the 2D hand drawn animations, so I can only take credit for the 3D.

:)
