Under an Unintended Sky- unter einem unerwarteten Himmel

I never thought I would see the northern lights over Germany.
Not here. Not like this. Not above the rooftops I’ve known my whole life.
That night, something shifted. Not just in the sky, but in me.
The glow didn’t explode into color. It didn’t dance like I’d seen in documentaries or picture books. It arrived differently. Quietly.
A faint shimmer, barely there. Cold and drifting, soft like a held breath.
As if the heavens had remembered something – and in that memory, a rhythm returned.
There was no announcement. No spectacle.
It didn’t demand attention.
And yet, it had mine completely.
For a moment, everything felt thin.
The fabric of time loosened.
The sky felt too close, too vast, all at once.
And I stood there, strange in my own body, aware of how easily everything can be pierced by a moment like this.
