In the distant past, Earth's history was much different than that of the Star Trek Universe we know as the prime timeline, leading to this divergent history. It began in 1861, with the war between the United States and Confederate States. The Confederate general Thomas Jackson survived Chancellorsville in 1863, and was able to pull a win out of Gettysburg, though this tactical win proved more to be a rallying point for the Union. General Sidney Johnston survived Vicksburg, but had to convalesce at President Davis's plantation and could not contribute to the war for about a year. Still, this caused heads to turn to North America in Europe to this new nation.
