What we here in Cape Breton like to call a fiddle-head! They can be eaten at this point in their development...on there way to becoming a fern. Never had them, but I heard they are good!

coolness, thanks for the infor. down here in malaysia, the indegenious people do eat them and they are rarely found at markets in large towns,. i recon most city folks do not know how to cook them cause they could be a lil on the slimy side. personally, i don't mind having it on my dinner plate and have tried them (too often) when on assignment in an indegenious village.
