I've been itching to tell you guys about Size Con, and I really wanted to wait until we have the place signed, but A LOT of people have been asking, so here goes.

We knew there was a huge risk doing the KickStarter, but there was an even bigger risk of renting a venue that was either too big or too small. No one has ever attempted a con around size before, so we didn't know if we'd be expecting 5 or 500 guests. It was just a big unknown! Before we even launched our KickStarter, we had a plan B in case we couldn't reach our goal, and here it is.

The con now will more or less be the same, as far as content goes. We *might* have to condense a panel or two, unless we sell more tickets from now until April so we can buy more venue rental time, which is totally possible. We have about 12 hours scheduled for the con, including the dance. We currently have a head count of slightly under 100 people attending, which as I just said, can grow, but with that number alone, we've gone ahead and found another venue. It wont be at a hotel, which is less convenient for all of you, but cheaper for us. The venue we have lined up in Manhattan right now is really close to the subway, so finding an affordable hotel (check Groupon!) that you can take the subway to should be easy. We still might also be able to offer group rates and discounts, so keep your eyes peeled for that info. We will add some assistance and travel tips on our website soon for visitors coming to NYC as well. :)

Luckily, all of our special guests have stayed on with us, and continue there commitment to attend NYC Size Con. So even though we might be at a smaller venue, or have to cut out some of the bells and whistles, the big reason you're coming to Size Con (guests, panels, VR demos, etc) are still intact. It's going to be an amazing con, and we really hope to offer a unique, and unforgettable experience! We realize we need to start somewhere, so if Size Con is small this year, so be it! Hopefully next year will be even bigger! >:3

For those of you who bought a ticket on KickStarter, you will notice you were not charged since the campaign failed, so you essentially do not have a ticket. You can buy a ticket here, or go to sizecon.com and click on the ticket link. For those who pledged larger amounts for the added on bonuses, we are still honoring those offers! If you have any concerns with your purchase, please contact Bryan at NycSizeCon@gmail.com

So what can you do to help Size Con be successful? Well, for one, we're relying on people who pledged originally to repurchase those tickets on our Eventbrite, and luckily many of them have, but we still wan't to get back to the number that we had on our KickStarter. So priority #1, is to get solid ticket sales ASAP. These are the real deal, baby ;) Secondly, you can help spread the word. Now, we can sell tickets even up to the day of the event! Though the more money we get up front, the more we could use it to make this years even more awesome! We want to encourage people to make Size Con art too, and share it with NycSizeCon@gmail.com or :iconsizecon:! We will post it up on our website and DA! And I don't just mean traditional 2D artists, if you have animations, models, photo manips, even written short stories that revolve around SizeCon somehow, please submit it to our SizeCon accounts! We'd love to see it and share it with others too!

Thanks for being patient with us, and over all being so encouraging! Don't listen to the naysayers, most of them have never even met another macro/microphile, so I can't help but laugh at their assessment of the community. I've met close to 60 in the past 8 months, and as a 20 something female, I don't at all feel threatened or awkward around anyone at our meetups. I've never had an inappropriate moment with other members, just because people have a sex drive (like most humans), doesn't mean they're going to mount someone the second they see them. Seriously people. I love my size brothers and sisters, and am so happy I can help build an event like this that can celebrate our uniqueness instead of encouraging the negative, shameful, and self-hate language I see from a loud minority in our own community no less. Size peeps are awesome, people gotta realize they can't be hating because they're scared. I only got one life to live, and I'm not going to waste it on what-ifs. It's amazing what we've accomplished in 8 months, I couldn't be prouder and be happier to be able to help serve the community in this way. <3

BITCHES BE HATIN', SIZECON IS HAPPENING!

I've been running size meetups for 10 months with only positive results, I see no harm in running a private indoor con.
And lots of people already bought tickets, this isn't going to stop.

Sorry, but no one is forcing you to come :/ I don't see what the problem is.

Because I thought having macrophilia was a disease growing up. I felt alone, and hated myself. A lot of people in the community have had these feelings. The meetups were a way to accept this part of me that I will never change, and a way for others to accept that about themselves too. It feels really nice to have a person agree with you that something is interesting, or cool, or wonderful or even sexy without a computer screen in between.

The con, which is a private indoor event, not at some big publicized convention hall event, will hopefully recreate that feeling of community, but on a larger scale than the meets. It's worked successfully for the furry community, so I don't see why it would be difficult for us. I'm aware that furries are often made fun of, but the furries who attend cons don't care, and the furries who want to be private about it don't attend, so who cares? Again, we're not advertising this like on the local news or anything lol. You would probably have to see an ad on a size forum or site to find out about it in the first place.

Jitensha, I have a question: Are the tickets supposed to be for sale now? Because when I go to the site I see the VIP packages for sale but general admission is apparently not going up until April 20th :O

Is that just the site being buggy or is that how it is?

Ughhhh, I'm not exactly sure O_O Do you mind asking nycsizecon@gmail.com (Bryan) about it?
He setup the ticket page, and handles most of the financial stuff ; w ; I don't know how to fix it >.<

The implication that any of us have to have met a size enthusiast in person in order to have an opinion on the community - which meets predominantly online, I'm pretty sure - is false equivalency at best. Also, to borrow from your response to Sheela below, "No one asked us to do this." I've brought this up previously with Bryan as a fairly strong case for why the Kickstarter didn't take off like a rocket.

Yes, you're all volunteering your time. Same as anyone does for any hobby or weekend interest or social club. But slinging mud in the direction of those you'd hope would be potential investors isn't necessarily the wisest choice.

When I was talking about size people in person, it was in context to creepers. I've met a lot, and none happen to be creepers. That's not to say there aren't creepers out there, but it seems the people who tend to want to attend large gatherings, are going to be preying on people, when they could be judged or deal with the consequences of being a jerk/creep or in anyway inappropriate. Especially when to top it all off, we'll be having paid security there.

And again, this isn't about making an investment. We're doing this because we want to celebrate instead of shame ourselves.
If I end up losing money, that's fine. I'm not doing this for profit, or to make a Size Con next year. I'm doing this for the community, and I'm doing this for me.
You're more than welcome to join our celebration, as is anyone else.

I've... met a lot of macrophiles and microphiles actually, at NYCC and visiting and I'm going to AC hopefully. Just because we don't agree with how things have been handled and the idea to make it a smaller con when it failed doesn't give you any right to slander us.

We due respect people's opinions, and with that, we also do have the right to defend ourselves and our ideas.
Look, we're volunteers, we're doing this for no pay whatsoever, and trying to make a lot of people with differing opinions come together under one roof, be happy, and make sure they all have a good time. It's not an easy task, and no one asked us to do this. We're doing this because we want this to happen.

We've gotten a lot of slack from some people, and I feel it unfair. This event has never happened before, and people have been talking about the possibility of a con happening when I joined forums over 10 years ago. I'm not going to wait until I'm old to attend one, so I'm working with my local size friends to make one here in NYC. You're invited, everyone in the community is invited, but if you don't like the party we're running, no one is forcing you to attend. It's kind of mean spirited to be so negative when we're trying to build something inclusive, that's never been done for size fans, ever.

This doesn't really seem relevant. The comment was about you slinging mud because people don't agree with how you guys are handling things and you proceeded to act as if you were getting attacked, when you did the initial mudslinging simply because we think you shouldn't have done things so quickly. A year of planning for a con isn't unheard of, it's common, and it's not "waiting until you're old". It's being a logical planner. It would have given you more time for outreach, more time to make funds without having to downsize the convention, and more time to consider other venues that would attract more people because a lot of people don't like it in NYC. I hate it there, it's why I refuse to go to NYCC anymore. It's not conducive with being laid back and comfortable, it's frenzied and claustrophobic. Planning for a venue in a location that isn't so hectic would have been better for the community at large, but instead of that it was planned around what would be easier for a small group of people, aka the planners. But none of that would have mattered if you had given yourself a better time frame.

You can take criticism as attack if you want to. But at the end of the day, no one's criticism was really listened to and you just went on charging rather than listening to anyone's advice. It's not that we don't want a sizecon. It's that we don't want this rushed one in an expensive location that a lot of people can't afford or even handle being in due to their own health issues. And disagreement doesn't make one a "naysayer".

Well, my mudslinging was directed solely at people who have said it was a bad idea because of 'creepers'.
I understand people have their concerns, but again, think about this from our POV.

We live in NYC. This is our home. Why would we do this anywhere else? Most people from NYC don't even drive, they don't have cars, so if we moved it, our own club members might not be able to attend. I understand that it's (1) expensive and (2) far for many, but one thing we've all learned from making these Size Meetups (and not just the in person ones, but the skype ones too), is that people chicken out. They're too nervous to talk about it, so they don't show up. It would make sense that we would build this around a small group of people, for one very important reason: we are reliable. Aside from that, we're building it for us, for our friends, our local community. We're not doing this for profit, so I'm not going to bend over backwards for strangers. I'm going to make it awesome for the people I KNOW will be there. I'm sorry that it seems like you have some health issues being around a lot of people, I understand, my best friend is agoraphobic, but again, this is where we live. If we continue with SizeCon, we're never going to do one outside the city. Our event is going to be 100ish people, I assure you this isn't NYCC.

We have been talking about SizeCon since April of last year, which would make it a year worth of planning. Yes, we took time to make official announcements, but then again it took time to reach out to guests and even have them sign up with us, gather volunteers, plan everything. We're doing a lot of hard work, and you're really only seeing a sliver of it. We cannot make everyone happy. It is literally impossible. So we're going to make a con for us, and if my fellow size community enjoys it, all the better!

I might well come, if I get my job I'm after. It'll involve a flight or two. I live in Edinburgh after all. But I must say, I'm glad it's coming off in some way or an other.

Also, stop worrying about where we're all gonna stay! ;) Couchsurfing, Air BnB, I'm sure we can manage it. Ha.

I hope you can come one year! But your English is awesome! You would be fine.
Do you know New York City is the most diverse city in the entire world? It also speaks the most languages!
All that matters in America are your opinions and feelings. No body cares if your grammar is bad, or if you make a mistake.

My landlady is Chinese and barely speaks any English, but we have a very friendly relationship. These relationships are very common in NYC, from neighbors, to restaurant owners, taxi drivers, etc. It's a beautiful thing *w* NYC's diversity is my most favorite thing about it.
