I don’t know how much of the film is true & how much is “Sinowood”. Heavily dependent on CGI, although you get used to it. The Americans are replaced by actors with slight Russian accents. They have some amazing scenes & cinematography with so many extras to rely on, but again, it’s slightly spoiled by the sloppy or heavy-handed use of CGI. BUT give credit where it’s due, some of the cinematography is really outstanding. Your usual tear-jerker or for those easily rendered emotionally moved like myself, you’re already watering in the first five minutes. The play of the poor cannon-fodder soldier that only wants to return home and build a house for his parents and brother with the land allotment he was given as a soldier, for his military service, of a quarter of an acre. In the story, whether true or not, the hero, the main character in the movie, has a younger brother, 19, who follows him into the war effort. He’s the 677th soldier in their unit. They keep the number of soldiers
