Hush by JeyBarnes Hush by JeyBarnes
Listen to a cricket's heartbeat.

I worry (YES, believe it or not--well-adjusted little me!) that things like this look like ripoffs of Brian Froud's work. All the ingredients are there--I adore it, I look at it often, and he's one of my favorite artists. I have studied the way he applies color and the philosophy behind his art. But every artist has a unique voice and it's a disservice to yourself and those who inspire you to become derivative in your work.

But I love this drawing.

i really like this. i like how the face is covered, and yet, you can still feel the emotion in it.

I love Fraud, I own most of his art books. I have to say this peice has a different sort of appeal. Don't get me wrong, I love it, it just seems more unique then you seem to think. I can't even pick out my favorite feature. Stunning work.

I love this picture.
I'm not entirely sure what it is, maybe the hands or the fact that it comes off as a bit creepy, but either way, it's amazing.

Thanks very much! It's still among my favorite (of my own) drawings. I'm glad you dig it.

I swear, everytime I log on, I stare at this picture for forever.. lol.. :) did you use terracotta for this? I'm just wondering because the outline of it looks a little like it.. Idk, don't listen to me XD I'm just admiring :3

Squee, I'm flattered! The outline is a Prismacolor pencil, "burnt ochre." So glad to hear that you dig it so much--thanks!

it does look a lot like his work, i'll agree. it's the colouring & the nose/mouth, i think..
lovely though, never the less.

It looks amazing, and your shading ablities rock, as usual.

I must admit I thought of the Dark Crystal when I first saw this, but I don't consider that to be a bad thing at all. This is totally charming. Is that marker over some of the parts? I think that's a great touch.

I adore brian froud. his books. his movies. his art. everything. I have for ever since I discovered him eons ago.

this definitely has froudian inspiration, but is still yours fully. I love your coloring in this one, and the hands. I think the hands and hair are my favorite

wonderously grand, as always.
