That's hard...how you erase the messy edges without damaging the lines of the drawing?
Reply
:iconkritickilled:
KriticKilled Featured By Owner Jan 28, 2010  Student General Artist
Thats because the "messy edges" are on other layers. Not on the same layer as the lines.

I have a couple of questions,if you don't want to answer, just say it:
What method(burn, blur, etc)do you use to blend?
Did you made this one first pencil and scanned it?
How did you made the other layers between the lineart and background?

how many different colors do you usually use for one section, like the skin? And what's the best way to get your lines to soft and your colors blended so nicely?

Just out of curiosity, but when you shade, do you shade on the same layer as your block color?
Reply
:iconjessibeans:
JessiBeans Featured By Owner Sep 20, 2007  Professional Digital Artist
not to begin with, that way if I mess up, I can change it... then once I like where it is going, I'll merge the layers down.
:D

Oh, okay. Thanks! In alot of tutorials they say how they shade but they never mention if it's on a separate layer or not. Anyway, thanks again! ^_^

hey quick question.. when you import your lines to photoshop, the default bg color of the lines layer is white, then you have the purple BG.. now did you use a blending mode in the lines layer?

I wanted to let you know that I used this tutorial while working on this picture, and I found it very helpful.

I'm still transitioning from twenty years of using only real media to fiddling about in CGI, so it's good to find artists who are willing to share tips on how to make the computer do the stuff. (Pardon my technical language, please.)

Anyhow, I credited this tutorial, and linked to it in my post. I hope you won't mind that, but if you'd rather I remove it, I'll certainly comply.
Thanks again,
Cluegirl

there's one shot where the shadows are really blocky and rough and in the next one, they're all smooth. how did you fix it? did you paint over them with the rough ones as a guide or did you blur/blend them?
Reply
:iconjessibeans:
JessiBeans Featured By Owner Aug 30, 2007  Professional Digital Artist
I went back over my shadows with my brush set at a low opacity and flow and blended the colors that way (I don't like the smudge tool, it looks too artificial), and I go back and forth a couple times, with light colors and then back with the darker colors until I'm happ with it.
:D
