Wow, I really never write any journal entries. My last entry was begging for money for the Broken Legacy Kickstarter.
Well the comic is now finished. We, Rian Miller and I, were set to premier the book at Boston Comic Con until a couple of psychopath terrorists thought it would be a good idea to blow people up.

So I went out to Boston the Thursday before the con and then the FBI, who are amazing, figured out who the bombers were only a couple of days after the bombing. We celebrated that night because we knew it wouldn't be long until they found these douche bags. We went to bed and woke up Friday watching as the entire city of Boston was shut down. Word came down that the con was canceled but fortunately they caught the guy late that night.

So no comic con premier for the book. That was disappointing but it's hard to complain when you look at the big picture. It's sad to think of those that lost their lives because of these maniacs. It was very surreal to be down close to the bomb site.

I've just posted up a 6 page preview of the book here on deviantARt. If you enjoy the preview then head on over to the Stock*Pile Comics store, name your price, and download the digital copy which is completely DRM-free.
Here is a link to the store.
gumroad.com/stockpilecomics#Ce…

With no con to promote the book I now turn to social media.
I've worked really hard and am really proud of this book. I really just want to get it in people's hands. So here is what I need from all of you...
Spread the word.
Links, blog posts, tweets, reviews, anything you can do. It would be a huge help to me and Rian.

Thanks for your support! On to issue #2!

:iconrianmiller: and I have started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to print the first issue of our comic Broken Legacy. All the info can be found on our Kickstarter page here.

www.kickstarter.com/projects/j…

We've been working hard on the book and hope to print it and have a small premiere. What we are asking for is help raising $2,200.
We are really excited about the project and hope you will help us reach our goal and spread the word!

As some of you many know I just had my second kid named Anderson and he was born weighing 7lbs 10oz of pure man! I am a proud papa!
Children come with expenses. A lot of expenses!
So I am looking to do some commissions to hopefully cut down on some of those costs.

I will be taking $10 commissions for the next few weeks.

What does 10 bucks get you? A fully "inked" digital drawing. They are high resolution 8x10. One character of your choice. I'll even throw in some grey tones/digital inkwash.

They will look similar to these drawings.

A must read from :iconrianmiller:

"My copies of Man-Gull #1 arrived at my house today, and they are beautiful. I made a quick video of myself unboxing them and showing off a copy a bit, which you can view here: [link]

If you'd like to purchase a copy of the book, I'll be selling them alongside ~GreenSkyZero's Forever Winter #1 at the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, MD on Saturday, September 10th and Sunday, September 11th. If you can't make it to the show, both books will go on sale either this weekend or early next week in both physical copy and digital download formats over on the Stock*Pile Comics website: [link]

So, what do you get when you buy Man-Gull #1? A 40 page comic including a color cover (colors courtesy of ~jessemunoz), the first 21 page chapter of Man-Gull's story written and drawn by yours truly, and 12 (count them, 12!) pin-ups by the likes of the following talented artists:

:iconjoellolar: :iconjessemunoz: :iconkansatron: :iconnecenarro:
:iconintodecember: :iconsedani: :icondax-zero: :icondon-kunkel:
:iconmikemack1984: :iconjohnshine: :icontylerchintanner: :iconkraiger:

All that for just $5 + s/h for a physical copy or $0.99 for a digital download. What more could you possibly want? Well, hopefully you'll want issue 2 which, as you can see in the video I linked to above, I've made the lofty promise of delivering in 2012.

I have to tell you, I am really excited for SPX (Small Press Expo) even though I will not be in attendance.
I'm excited because the Stock*Pile crew will be taking that little convention over with the release of both
:iconjoellolar:'s Forever Winter and :iconrianmiller:'s Man-Gull.
I've read both books and you guys are in for a huge treat! I did a small 3 page backup story in Forever Winter and I have a pinup in Man-Gull so its pretty cool that I've been able to contribute to some awesome projects. I think they will able to be purchased online in the near future if you are not in attendance at SPX (If they don't sell out!)

With the release of those books I have become really excited for the future of Stock*Pile Comics. Its a bright one.

Stock*Pile Comics

Wed Mar 30, 2011, 12:49 PM

I just can't stay away.
I'm still coming to grips with the fact that getting paid full time to draw is probably never going to happen but I just can't stop drawing. I love it too much.
I'm still participating in Pummel over at PencilJack [dot] com. I am the current Light Heavy Weight champion. It feels good to be champ.
I will also be at Comic Book Ink in Tacoma, WA for Free Comic Book Day again this year giving away free sketches. Its probably my favorite day of the year.

But what I'm really here to talk about is Stock*Pile Comics. Me and couple of my good buddies :iconrianmiller: :iconjoellolar:  and :iconkansatron: have started a little artist group called Stock*Pile. We have a blog were we will be posting about the different projects that we are working on. Rian has got Man-Gull up and running, Joel has Forever Winter, and I will eventually have Broken Legacy up and going but for now will be helping those two guys with back up stories.

So check out the blog and follow us. If you like my stuff (and after the overwhelming response I got from my last journal entry, I think some of you might) go check out www [dot] stockpilecomics [dot] com

Thanks!

Shuttin 'er Down

Thu Mar 17, 2011, 2:17 PM

****EDIT****
Let me just make this clear. I'm not saying that I 'm never going to draw again. What I am saying is that I've realized that the chances of me ever becoming a full time professional comic artists have become very slim. Its a hard realization and because of it I'm taking an extended break. When I am ready and can wrap my brain around the fact that at most this will be a hobby, I will be back to drawing and having fun.
***************************************

I'm not closing my deviant art account, but I won't be posting any new art or hanging around here much for the foreseeable future. I've seen into the future and me and the drawing game are not in the same room. I'm not completely hanging it all up but my pencil will be collecting dust while my table is in storage. I have a couple of projects that I've promised some buddies that I will be finishing up here in the next few weeks and after that things around here will be pretty scarce.

The reason for the shut down is that I've become discouraged with my work, its prospects, where I wanted it take me, and have become more focused on reality of it all.

Thanks for all the support from everyone here! It has meant a whole lot!
I'm not looking for sympathy I just thought it would be best to address it straight up and be real about it.  If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I'm a pretty open book.

You will be able to hear my thoughts still on the weekly Sidetracked Podcast. My website jessemunoz dotcom will be updated with the web and graphic design projects I do for work and you can find me on Facebook and Twitter. I will be around!

Its been fun!

I'm giving away a 3 artist trading card set. I will draw almost anything that you want. All you have to do is be the first one to send me a screen shot after I cross 25k page views. I'm about 150 page views away. Send the image to jesse(at)jessemunoz(dot)com. I will announce the winner here. You get to choose what I draw and I will mail it out to you. Sound good?

In the past I've done homage pieces as I reached little "milestones" (and I may still do that) but as a thank you I will draw whatever you request on 3 trading card set similar to what I did on with my little Walking Dead trading card set that you can see here.

Three cards taped together to make a cool image of whatever you want.

See you at 25k!

First I want to say a big thank you to all the Favs and Dev Watches! I've been really busy with work and life and art has, and more specifically deviantArt, been pushed to the back burner. So I'm sorry that I haven't thanked you all individually but please have some grace with me! I appreciate every time anyone takes the time to check out my work!

Anchorbird is webcomic that I've been participating in and I can't speak highly about it enough. Here is the deal:

Anchorbird is a new webcomic which is a collaborative effort: each installment is written and drawn by a single person, taking turns within a group of about a dozen people. Nobody involved in the comic has planned out where the story will go, it's all up to whomever is drawing it right now.

I am having a lot of fun with the series. It started off slow but it is really shaping up to be something really cool. It now has its own domain www. anchorbird .com which means we have a new RSS feed. So check out the new site and update/add the feed! I'm totally behind this web comic as its characters are becoming fleshed out and interesting and the story feels like its really going some where. Its a lot of fun so go to the new site, start at the beginning, and let me know what you think. Enjoy!

So I've been slacking on the updates but I have a good reason… I'm lazy.
I have been out of town with my beautiful wife on a much needed mini-vacation. Check the link for some pictures of the trip. We visited my parents in Yakima and then headed to the Oregon Coast for some R&R.

Free Comic Book Day was a blast! It seemed like there was more people at the shop this year than ever before. I did over 70 sketches and the time flew by! Check out some of the pictures of Free Comic Book Day 2009 at Comic Book Ink. I've also included a video that Preston took while I did a Wolverine sketch.
