Delectable Deviations --Set 18--

Thu Jun 30, 2016, 7:17 PM

Hello and welcome to Delectable Deviations Set 18. :bademoticon: The seventeenth week of Delectable Features of photography. Everything from portraits, landscapes, abstract, urbex, analog and texture. You name it! I choose these from my stacks and are just my personal selections of interestingly beautiful and creative photographs. I love spending the time to find these as it fills me with awe and inspiration!

It's been a crazy week for me, at least that's what it feels like, life is strange, in a good way though. Times have been tough lately so my Leica M3 which I've been dying to use more has been sitting lens-less for the last almost 2 months. I wanted a 50mm lens and no other focal length so I decided to do the unthinkable , I put a Russian lens on my Leica. The Jupiter 8 50m f2. It's going to be my poor mans 50 Summicron until I get out of this financial divot.  Just wanted to share this because I'm super excited to finally get to know  and use my Lecia. Even if  its with a $30 Russian lens. Cheers everyone and have a great night.  Enjoy these features while you're at it.

Hahah isn't that the case with all camera systems? It's always one more lens, one more filter etc.

I'm trying to simplify my life (and editing process) by shooting with just one lens now in my day to day work. I used to carry arround 2 bodies, 3-5 lenses, lights etc. Now I'm just: one camera, one lens, natural light and maybe MAYBE a portable flash.

Right back at you Cap'!

I always go minimalist when shooting street, at most i'll bring two bodies and only one lens attached to each. Most times I bring just one camera and lens, no lights, nothing else, I make my mind have to work around what I'm limited to as far as focal length. I find it really helps keep me focused on how to approach situations. Although of course there will be times when you could've caught something if you had a wider lens etc. :) I love not having to carry a bag, just sling my camera and thats it

I don't think the price of a lens is important. It's the quality. And this proves it, two images of a cheap m42 vintage lens

chinon/revue lens portret  and Auto Chinon/Revuenon 55mm f/1.7

so you go out shooting and make that lens work.

And this as usual --- >Feature folder.

You have no idea how good that is to hear from someone else who has great experience like yourself. Thanks so much I'm very excited to see what I get with this lens. I have read so many great things about the Jupiter Lenses. Cheers my friend! You are great to have as company here on dA!

actually the most important part is the knowledge the photographer has to put that lens to good use. quality depends on a lot of factors, each lens has its ups and downs (one with only ups and no downs will be prohibitively expensive, if even possible)

I can't completely agree with that. All the knowledge in the world cannot make a bad lens produce good images. My point actually was that you can get magnificent lenses for little money. And I think this is especially true for prime lenses. As a comparison I have a wide angle and a macro and the m42 vintage I showed here. All three of them beat my kitlens and my travellens. But amongst each other as far as quality is concerned there is not really much (for me at least) noticeable difference but in handling and purpose. But then again, this is a strictly personal view.

what you call "quality" for a lens is vague, there are many objective factors which can define it, like geometric distortion, chromatic aberrations, sharpness, focusing speed and so on. as a photographer, you make a subjective set of characteristics you appreciate in a lens, but this set will be different for the next photographer.
now, didn't see you any good images made with kit lenses? nor with phone cameras? there are plenty of them around, a good photographer will make wonderful images even with poor gear.
PS: if you ask me about your two samples, I like a lot the portrait, but the flowers... if it was my picture i would have not published it :)
