Stamp: don't judge our characters! by Jeshika-Haruno Stamp: don't judge our characters! by Jeshika-Haruno
I'm sick of people bashing a fan character when they have just looked at ONE picture of the aforesaid character :x. This is why I always say: Search for more info and/or pictures of a character before bashing it!!

For example, you (my friends) know that my Pokémon-fan character's pictures aren't only about romance. But as soon as certain people see a pairing-themed picture of her, they start bashing her. You can't tell ANYTHING about a character just by looking at one picture, right?

Sigh, sometimes it looks like people simply need something to hate...

For me art will always be art is independent of the people worlds, bashing a character on the piece is a amateur thing
for a true artist. :(

This sorta reminds me of the people who think that any character with an abnormal hair color is stupid and instantly a mary-sue. I gave up trying to explain that the weird hair colors are part of my comic thing. :'D

Awesome stamp, by the way! I've never seen this sort of stamp, I'm a little glad I'm not the only one annoyed by this sort of thing.

Jeez, I had this happen and it went out of control. The person, after they commented TWICE on two of Pittia's pictures I drew, commented on my profile "Stop ripping off Nintendo!" Because they probably didn't read the description...

"Ripping off Nintendo" is such a vague statement, though. Nintendo has produced a lot of games, all of them very different from each other, so what were they exactly trying to accomplish by telling you that?!

Yeah. So I have no idea.

PS. I wanna know some advice for a comic/story that I MIGHT call Super Smash Sisters Premium that has my characters, a few canon Nintendo boys, etc. It'd be like Ssb but with girls instead of TONS of boys.

But how the heck am I suppose to draw the title if I'm not a digital or colorful artist like most people are?

HOLY SHIT WHAT HOLD ME PLEASE--

No, but now that you mention it... This is something I'd want to address (and rant about). If you frequent Tumblr, you might have noticed that now everyone is drawing more diverse characters, such as people of colour, disabled characters, fat characters, characters with different romantic/sexual orientations... Which is a good thing! Representation is important!

But now, because of that, if your character is white, heterosexual, skinny (or just average) and abled, people will automatically label them as plain, uninteresting... As well as label your story as "boring". I don't consider this "racism" (because whites aren't a minority, but a privileged group), but that doesn't mean it isn't a bad thing. Promoting diversity shouldn't imply labelling more "common" characters as trash.

I know I probably shouldn't be complaining because people with the traits mentioned at the beginning have gone through a lot of shit while us, whites, have had it always easy, but this is prejudicial to artists with "common" characters as the protagonists of their novels/webcomics and that stuff... If only we all could get along well...

Whoa, sorry for the rant! You probably got bored of reading...

Nah, I found your rant true.

If making all of your OC's constantly fat, disabled, POC, and (enter sexual orientation here)Then.. That's kinda weird imo. White characters are not the devil, nor automaticly bland. There's nothing wrong with being straight or abled. That wouldn't sound right when I say darker characters are boring and queers and the disabled are bad right?
I really want to make a "My OC is white...so what?" Stamp but I'll get trampled by speshul snowflakes of Tumblr..

The HETALIA fandom was infected so much by these people that I stopped making any Oc's for the show.
Not mentioning any names (for the sake of no more drama) ,But they roleplayed their OC Alaska alot and I happened to have one of my own. They came out of nowhere on my journal and called me a racist because Alaska can't be white.. WTF? Lmao why not? Are white Alaskans non existant or something? Inuits didn't fully populate the place in 1950-1980 Its my representation of the state's land..not yours. Their alaska was also a trans man/gernderfluid/something...what?? I'm sure 99% of Alaskans arnt hermaphrodites at that time period..

After that stupid thing back in 2014, some one commented on my little cousin's account :iconalaska-hetalia: and commented something like "can I help you make him more historical..alaska shouldnt be white" -Sigh- atleast he got her to shut up by COMPLEATELY burning her.  :x

This stamp makes me feel a bit better.
Since one of my OCs got misjudged as a Mary-Sue....

Well, I personally am pretty much apathetic most of the time, so I don't really know how to react....
If that is what they think, then that is fine, it is their choice. .-.

But I am glad you made this stamp!
I feel better already! :D

I'm glad this stamps helps you feel better! :) I don't know your OC, so I don't know whether she's a Mary Sue or not but, even if she were, who the Hell cares? Everyone is free to do whatever they want to have fun as long as they don't harm others; if you see an OC you don't like, the best you can do is ignore it and not call it a Sue or, even worse, bash the artist.

Well, my OC is basically supposed to be a serial killer,
but she doesn't look like one because that's how she tricks men into being murdered.
But the fact that she looks sexy is apparently a Sue-trait.
Because I drew her with a big bust.

My OC was not bashed, thank goodness for that. ^^
But I don't know how to feel. Again, I felt apathetic.
I am just confused about this whole Mary-Sue thing, and while I am generally apathetic, I am a
tad bit offended when I see a charactor get called a Mary-Sue because of ONE, even a teeny little thing.

So, maybe I need a small definition on what a Mary-Sue is.... ._.
*sigh...* I just dunno...
But this stamp does make me feel better.

Well, a Mary Sue is a character who doesn't obey the canon rules of the "universe" (meaning any book, anime/manga, videogame, film...) she was created for. Actually, it's a term that can only apply to fan characters, which are characters you create for an already existing series.

Since you haven't mentioned any official name, I'm supposing your serial killer character is an original character instead of a fan character, so using the term "Mary Sue" with her is totally useless.

Also, should I remark that this term has drastically changed during these past years, evolving into a sexist concept –so now, basically, everyone feels entitled to label any fan character as a Sue just because they find it annoying. Sure, there are many fan characters that are annoying, cliché and poorly developed but, as long as they obey the rules of the series, they are not Mary Sues. Then again, I insist, this term is useless for original characters.

I hope my explanation was helpful!

My Light-Year and Abyss characters got bashed because I was dealing with imposter accounts at one point. Even my own ex-boyfriend dumped me for defending my OCs, about whom he had said negative things, saying that they had "created a lot of controversy; a lot of dispute," and telling me that I "probably would be better off without them."

This is deviant art people always need something to hate...
And these days the word Mary Sue is used for every character without explanation. And when you overuse a word it loses its meaning. They never tell you why they dislike your char, whats wrong with it. Just straight forward bash it.
And that pisses me off.
I have a cannon/oc (sorta)relationship, but Its stupid for people to bash it because:
a) the cannon character doesn't love her back 90% of the time and the other 10% are when he is friendly.
b) her story and character are developed and even if you take him out of it, it can still work perfectly fine
But people don't seem to notice that oc/cc ships can work without hurting the cannon,  that its none of their business, and those ocs shipped with a cannon char might even be better than their ocs created in their world.
Just my 5 cents.

I know. It gets rather annoying and cliché. These people will never stop hating.

My oc is paired with a character. I don't have her character set in stone yet but I think I have her story down. I am proud to have my oc paired with my favorite canon character. Part of the reason is because my favorite character is paired with a guy and I am not a fan of yaoi.

I agree with you, people use the word "Mary Sue" for mostly everything  I don't understand how people can be so closed-minded because, as you said, a OCxCanon shipping can work if correctly developed! Of course, there's a problem if the canon character already has a canon crush or is in a canon relationship, or if the canon character has an attitude that makes him/her "un-pairable", but if the canon character is someone that you can totally imagine holding a relationship, I don't know why it couldn't work

My two Pokémon Special OCs are also related to some canon characters! :highfive: They're main characters but, surprisingly, their back-stories are totally undetailed, so I don't really care what people say. Everyone has their own head-canon, anyway  And it's not like being related to a canon character ruins the OC.

And also because one of my OCs is paired with a canon character. Just because an OC looks pretty or is paired with a canon character doesn't mean they are Mary Sues because the OC can have flaws and the pairing isn't all about romance 24/7. Sure romance can be an element but not as a main theme since it can get boring and sickening :puke:
