WB Marketing Art, THE IRON GIANT, The Iron Giant, and Hogarth Hughes. Pencil, Digital Color.
I'm still practicing Photoshop, and I thought this would be a good exercise. Back when I was working for WB Consumer Products, David "BroHawk" Williams and I shared duties on "THE IRON GIANT" style guide art. I handled the Iggy drawings ("Iggy" is my nickname for I.G. - Iron Giant), while Dave knocked out a series of Hogarth sketches which were based on quick concepts contributed by the great Dan Haskett! Finally, everything fell to me for final tweaks and clean-up.
Now, a few of the drawings were intended to correspond in a pleasing composition, providing the option to feature the two lead characters together on product. This was tricky, since we created the drawings primarily for individual use, and they had to be solid on their own. Well, this
is how I intended these two drawings [link]
to work together. Emulating the spectacular feature film as closely as possible, including self-color lines, I thought this image might have worked very well on product. If only I knew then what I know now. Hahaha! Oh! In a moment of laziness, I snatched the image of the sky from online. With a little digital adjustments, I felt that it perfectly matched the mood I was looking for, reminiscent of the sunset sequences and the palette seen in the movie.
Thanks, Dan, and David! It could not have been done without you!
