Unused Warner Bros Marketing Art, HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN, Dementor. Pencil.

This piece caused a major meltdown for me. Essential information regarding how these creatures were to behave in the film was withheld for whatever reason, and this rendering was rejected for not conforming to their concepts. I was only told AFTER fully rendering the details according to an APPROVED sketch by another artist, that a Dementor's arms would never be raised that high. Never mind that this version looks dynamically cool! Grrrr!!! Okay. Just gimme my paycheck.

Hello, I am currently working on a Harry Potter tattoo themed leg sleeve. I'm designing my dementor tattoo right now, and was wondering if you minded if i used your work as inspiration for the tattoo? You are incredibly talented :)

I remember hearing where J. K. Rowling got the idea for Dementors, but how did she come up with the name?

Also, are there any mythological or supernatural creatures similar to Dementors? I ask because I wanted to do some research for a personal project.

I hope I didn't sound like I was asking a stupid question, it's just that when I heard that the Dementors were used as a metaphor for clinical depression, I wanted to know if there were ghosts, demons, or mythological creatures similar to them. The only thing I can think of are psychic vampires (depending on how you portray them), but I was hoping to find something more original.

I do not believe that everything Jo Rowling created for her wonderful stories was derivative, or merely a translation of preexisting mythology.  Although there may indeed be a fictional entity that closely or directly correlates to the Dementors, it is quite possible that Rowling simply assembled these creatures from diverse sources (ghosts, vampires, etc.), and they do not exist anywhere else in literature.

haunting and elegant at the same time! I think the height of the dementor's arms is purely pedantic. Looks fine to me - and a little bit old-school creepy-horror-movie-without-the-cheesiness!
