Axel - Wig by Jequila Axel - Wig by Jequila
The wig I styled for my Axel cosplay.

Base is [link] in red. I then dyed the roots darker, trimmed and styled with a whole can of hairspray and some got2b glued hair glue.

I'm surprised it actually hid my hairline so well! I had to use some hair glue to stick the sides to my head to hide my sideburns though xD

Edit
I have since restyled this wig, as seen in this deviation:

Aw thanks :>
I don't really have any tips... except Axel's wig sucks to drive in, it makes it very difficult to shoulder check :P
The gradient at the roots is totally worth the time and bother, it really makes you stand out from the Axels that half ass it ;)

You're so welcome. ~
Haha yeah, I haven't even ordered my wig yet. My biggest fear is that damn Widow's peek. XD
Oh yes, I've heard that. :la: Defiantly going to. Did you dye it at the roots or use a marker?

I used a marker, but if doing it again I'd make dye in a spray bottle :) It would be muuuuch faster!

Is this just one of the punky wigs? I'm about to order a base wig for my cosplay and i'm afraid that it won't be full enough in the back..
This wig looks absolutly fantastic though :3

Yup, just a Punky in red :) Though it was dyed a little with sharpie.
They have a lot of short frizzy fibers at the base to give it volume, and the roots are crimped in some bits too. If you don't need to see the roots, and it's a voluptuous style, punky is great!

spray paint is NOT a good idea ^^;;; I used glue in my Jenny wig when sticking the fibers to a foam core... Otherwise I wouldn't use it. You can use cheap hairspray and a hairdryer for styles, and sharpies to colour :D

hmm
ill try a few things out
ive never really used hairspray
i dont really want it to wash out though
and it doesnt matter because i get craft store wigs which cost about 12 dollars haha
sharpies are a good idea.

Hairspray is still quite hard to get out of a wig xD It's just that you can spray it right on, and if you make a mistake you can fix it. I suppose it doesn't matter for such cheap wigs though.

Ok, I feel really stupid for asking this ,but well I'm like brand new to cosplay and really don't know anything, and I'm starting with Axel cuz i'm difficult, and I'm following you and getting this wig and readin your comments so I have a pretty good idea on what to do,but~ I was wondering, did the head thing come with the wig or do you have to buy your own? :ashamed: :iconfailboat1plz::iconfailboat2plz::iconfailboat3plz:

You have to buy your own ;p I suggest padding the head with fabric scraps and duct tape so that it's the same size as your own (they're always too small). Otherwise when you take the wig off to wear it, it wont look the same on your head =O

How long did that take you to make? And would you perhaps make a tutorial? Because I'm planning on cosplaying as Axel.

WOW! amaizing Axel wig! one question, did u use only one wig or 2 wigs (most axel wigs I've seen have two wigs sewed together, so I was just wondering) anyway! again beautiful wig!

Only one, but the bits that I trimmed off in some sections, I rewefted and sewed back into the base ;)

Reply
:iconjequila:

Pretty much just separating the hair for one spike at a time and hair spraying it. Once dried in position, I'd add some hair glue to the ends to reinforce it ^^

what type of red was it for the base? soory they have like 3 types of red there
Reply

Jequila Featured By Owner Mar 7, 2009  Hobbyist General Artist
For the punky? It's just... Red. Not henna red or firestorm or anything. It's just called 'Red'. It comes slightly orange, so I really recommend dying the roots and letting it bleed through the wig like I did.
