London Horse Guards Parade v. 2

Last October my husband and I spent two weeks in London as part of a larger trip. I brought watercolors, brushes, paint, and a number of sketchbooks that were made specifically for the trip. However, I did hardly any painting.  I did a bit of sketching, but almost no painting. I did take hundreds of photos and have been slowly working some of them into paintings.

This is the first time I've ever worked up the same photo into a painting twice.  Please look at both and let me know which you prefer, and if you're feeling especially generous comment would be great!

Tough choice, Jen!

I´d honstly say this one but it´s by a hair!

I wasn´t aware that you can see London Eye from Horse Guard´s Parade to be honest.

Be lucky you had 2 weeks to be in London as my two trips didn´t last longer than 42 hours each. Did see as much as I could though!

All the best,

I prefer this version slightly. The contrasting colours are more prominent here, and the perspective seems more realistic.

However, I don't feel the triangle roof building on the right fits nearly as well compared to version 1, and a large part of that is the perspective differs here, and perhaps also the brown brick blobs are a little too strong on the triangle for me.

I LOVE the tower in this version, especially the simple and messily organic shadowing technique you chose. I think the foreground browns are amazing in this version too.

They are both very cool watercolours that immediately caught my eye when I loaded up my deviations to browse through :) Painter :shakepaintbrush:

It's really difficult to choose between the two versions! But I think I like this one with its more natural proportions and higher contrast for some reason. But, I also really like the ink work on the other with its Fifties stylization and color. They're both very good :D

Thanks. :) I also (obviously) had a hard time choosing. I actually had sort of abandoned the first one, worked on the 2nd then couldn't just leave the 1st unfinished because it had some good things going for it.
