. Personality:

Apollo is quite the handful. The older she gets, the more it becomes a challenge to handle her and keep her under control. From the beginning we knew she would be a handful with her ready and go personality when it came to the track but it has since then, gotten worse. She used to just rear up when it came to entering the gates or nip horses but now the behavior has turned into something much more; she's been known to do the following; Bite/nip/rear before entering the gate - biting at other horses through the gates and even trying to kick; while on the track she's been known to; kick, bite and even leap randomly in mid run. She's full of energy and despite their attempts to settle her down and try different feed to see if that helps, it's clear that she's just a wild mare full of spirit and energy. Her aggression towards horses on the track doesn't end there, she's been known to bite and kick other horses while in the pastures and charge other contestants horse's. So when around Apollo - take caution. Due to this unruly behavior towards other horses and humans, it's been clear that if you're working with her - do it at your own risk. She's full of fight and doesn't step down easily; making her quite the stubborn animal. The staff are working with her every day to break her of the bad habits and work with her but it's unclear how bright her future will be with such behavior.

. Other Information:

Got kicked in the jaw by an older horse when she was a foal, leaving her with a crooked jaw. (Not very noticeable but can be at times) She tends to hang her tongue out a lot but not sure if the injury is the cause or just something quirky. Due to this, we have to take extra precautions when using head gear and pulling back as it may hurt her.
