ES The Apocalypse

Finally, Apollo has a NEW reference that shows her glorious new built. All thanks to hard work and dressage work to get her nice and bulky <3 The background may be subjected to change but I'm liking it -sort of-. Some spoilers in her reference but oh well :') Also, holy shit, look at this transformation in my art. Not only that but in Apollo's built 2yrs old, 4yrs old, 8yrs old, 8yrs old

Personality & History 

There is no real short way in describing Apollo except maybe calling her Bipolar. The mare is loud, mean, and aggressive to anything that breathes or moves in her direction. It's unclear when she became this way but its thought to be around the time she was two that her true personality started to show. She has always been bossy and stubborn, never gotten along with mares, and even questionable around studs. The only thing she seems to show any kindness is towards her foals and even that is subject to change at times. Apollo lacks patience with things, often getting frustrated if she doesn't understand something. Things have to be broken down into smaller steps than normal in order for her to understand and if she does not understand, she will lash out. Being around other horses is dangerous and even makes taking her to shows questionable as she tends to kick/bite any horse who gets near the trailer or her. Still, to this day, it is required for her to wear a muzzle when around unfamiliar horses to protect them from her violent tendencies. Apollo generally gets along better with horses the same height or taller but not too much, it just makes it harder for her to bully them. Smaller horses or horses with weaker personalities are subjected to get bullied and pushed around by her, often leaving them in marks as she won't hesitate to chase them around. Very few horses do she get along with but the ones she does get along with can find she is affectionate to an extent and even a bit playful but it can change from time to time. Apollo is not an easy horse to handle but has improved since being given to a different handler, she lacks respect and trust with others. Gaining her respect is difficult and gaining her trust is just as hard. She won't hesitate to knock humans down and overpower them, especially during rides. She knows how to throw her weight, avoid one rein stops, buck and bite her way out of a training session if she is bored. Biting knees is her most common maneuver while being ridden, so is rearing straight up and randomly charging. She chews loudly on the bits in her mouth out of boredom or discomfort but can't be ridden in a hack except by Catina and even then it is dangerous. Some days her aggression is worse, especially if her jaw is aching making her harder to handle and work with. Working alongside other horses is distracting for her, especially since she doesn't get along well with other horses and even with a rider on her back she will still lash out at them. She is not quite at all about her dislikes but her wants are easier to be seen if you know her well. While everyone calls her dangerous, unpredictable and unhinged, there is some who understand her well and can predict her moves even if it seems one second she is fine and the next is lashing out. While pressure and release work for most, it does not often work for her and neither does bribing with treats. Moving her feet is more of a reward and standing still is more of a punishment, making it difficult to work her as she knows how to avoid the pressure of riders and power through. Apollo does have a soft side for those she likes (Though very few people) she can be quite affectionate, protective and caring of them but they must understand that her mood can change. She doesn't mind a good scratching on the inside of her back legs or belly but her face is a touchy place. Only few can touch it and she actually enjoys it, as her jaw does tend to ache quite a bit especially when she is acting out and has pushed herself. Apollo is not easy but some are able to work with her and get somewhere, it's just a matter of understanding and having patience. Corrections don't always go well and fuel the situation but sometimes a hard smack is enough to make Apollo step back and realize she's overstepped and needs to pay attention. A hard hand is sometimes needed while under saddle but even Apollo can pick up on when it's too much and bust, so it's best to only correct her when she is actively acting out and work with her being a bit heavy. She can be affectionate to those who know her well and have gained her trust but it's more of a reward for them because she's not an overly affectionate horse majority of the time. While she takes treats from anyone, it is best to just roll them or toss them especially if you're new to her. If she hurts a rider she has a deep bond with, she tends to get depressed and more violent if someone else tries to handle her and doesn't cope well until she has her original rider back. And even then, when she returns to work with that person people will often notice a change in her behavior and how she reacts to them. She works hard and enjoys it but only if it's with people she has a bond too. 

History

From the age of 2-4 years, old Apollo was a racehorse, before that, she came from a backyard breeder in Ireland and had no previous handling except medical wise. Apollo was kicked in the jaw and head by her own dam at the age of six months, subjecting her to months of recovery and permanent brain damage. After that, Apollo was sold as a year old to Katalina who did general groundwork and prepared her for the track and from there raced her with the exception of two other jockeys taking over (MJ and Cecily) for a short time. As a three-year-old Apollo seriously injured and ended the career of another chestnut mare during a race, has injured multiple people and others on and off the track, and has even injured her jockey's. At the age of four, she was raised three more times before retiring permanently for her own and others safety. It was then decided to set her off and let her be a broodmare, continuing her workouts but never racing her. She had a total of two foals during this time who are owned by WBS and FHF. At 8 years old, she was bred to WBS Ghostley fellow but it was believed the breeding had failed and Apollo did not conceive. After that and some months later, she was given to Catina Caito who was a nervous wreck and not quite ready for a strong headed horses but the two have proven to be the perfect pair and understanding of each other. Apollo has now taken on a career in Dressage under Catina's watch and is also being trained to jump with Cappy.
