Quick story sucks but works

Katalina was a bit nervous as the mare was loaded into the gate, she managed to find Apollo's correct bridle for the Arlington but had a feeling things wouldn't go their way. The mare wouldn't let her put the hackamore on for some unknown reason, so they would have to do without. Which bugged and worried Katalina, the extra piece was to ensure that Katalina had full control over the mare. Apollo was known to act up during the races but hoped things would go their way. Once the chestnut shot out of the gates, everything seemed completely okay and soon her nerves faded. The mare was listening quite well and responding to her subtle cues of when to pick up speed and when to slow down, however at some point down the track, the reins had snapped and Katalina had lost complete control of the mare or so she thought. All she knew was the sudden tension in the reins was no more and that Apollo was picking up pace but surprisingly she didn't gallop down the track at full speed like you would expect, she just galloped far enough to catch up along side WBS ghost hour which was unexpected and caught the red head off guard. However, it seemed to work in Apollo's jockey favor as the mare kept within a good distance of Ghost and was listening to the small vocal cues she gave the mare to let her know to slow down and went to speed up. Eventually the mare broke away from Ghost but kept a reasonable distance near the solid white mare who seemed quite alarmed that Apollo was now gallop along the track with no reins.
