Comic Relief!

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 9, 2013, 10:35 PM
Just wanted to make a quick plug for a good friend of mine  :iconchriscopeland: .... he has a Kickstarter campaign going for his full color sketchbook "Comic Relief: The art of Chris Copeland".  He is already reached his funding goal, but he is just inches from his first stretch goal and there is only about 9 hours to get there. It would be really cool if you guys could go pledge a little something!

250K thank you's

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 29, 2012, 9:27 AM
The pageview ticker on my dA page hit 250,000 sometime yesterday.  And while I don't think this metric, in of itself, is really all that important, I think it does mark something more important... all of you.

10 years ago when I first saw dA, I admit I had judged the site by its cover.  It seemed like a small site that served niche market.  One that didn't seem to be in the realm of my kinda work. 3 years or so, I tried to ignore it.  But eventually I was sucked in and got an account.  It ended up being one of my best decisions ever.

I cannot explain to you guys what the community here has been to my life.  Its grown my career, given me lifelong friends, an incredible support system and unequaled inspiration.  The talent, the passion, the patronage... its been nothing short of incredible.

So I thought that this would be a good time to thank everyone who has been supportive of this process, faved my work, watched me, visited, commented, cheerleaded when I was down, forgave my mistakes ( or lack of reply )  and even commissioned me ( which by the way bridged some scary spots early in the career), you have all done more than I could express or try to return.  So... with my heart in hand ....

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you....

Now onto a MILLION!  Mu ah ha HAAAAAA!

Wow! Comments and thank yous!

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 24, 2012, 9:20 PM
Wow, awesome response to the article.  It was a lot of fun to make, and Chris and I are incredibly proud to know a lot of people really got inspired. There's part two coming out this Wednesday.  It has some more details about our journey as well as some more tips, so keep your eye out!

Also, I would like to note, I got an absolutely overwhelming number of messages.  I answered as many comments and notes as i could.  But I couldn't possibly hope to answer or thank you for every single one.  However, I can't let them go completely unacknowledged, so.....

THANK YOU!!!

THANK YOU for the feedback!

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 18, 2012, 4:02 PM
Kind of an overwhleming response to do a webcomic vrs. an art book.  I was really gonna do one soon anyways but I think ( due to all the awesome comments ) it would add a lot more value if it was a something like a story plus development art all rolled into one, so I am gonna save a lot of of the art and ideas etc.  for the final product.

That said, what I REALLY want to express, is HUGE thanks to anyone who voted and/or commented.  I can't say enough to the participation.  It really means a lot to me AND allows me to better gauge what you guys want to see from me.  I think for a lot of us artists,  we spend a fair amount of time mulling projects or goals not knowing which is the wiser course which can make us hesitate.  When time can be so limited, any wasted energy on something, even if we like it, can be hugely wasteful.  With the feedback, I have much more confidence to where my energy can best be spent :D

Lastly, I am gonna do my best to respond to everyone who commented in the coming days... And again, THANK YOU!

No one would have called him perfect but...

Journal Entry: Mon May 28, 2012, 10:41 PM
On Sunday morning my father, old iron sides, died of pneumonia. No one would have called him perfect, and he would be the first to admit that.   To me though, he was one of the meanest, toughest nuts you could have ever met and in the end, he has a legacy that needs stated....

My father was heavily addicted to alcohol  and tobacco for most of his life. And they had taken huge tolls on the most important relationships his life and the relationship between my father and I was not spared.  There was along time my father and I didn't speak to each other. Eventually those addictions took their pound of flesh from my Dad.  About 12 or 13 years ago, he was struck down by a series of strokes and left in a wheel chair with the use of only one arm.  Unable to take care of himself, me and my siblings attempted to keep him out of the system.  However, after struggling for many years, in the end it didn't last.  We finally had to put him in a nursing home, where he could have access to proper facilities and where proper medical care was close to him.

Eventually I grew and my father changed. We were able to start to reconcile. And as I have become a husband, a father and a provider I started to better understand my father and the gifts he had given me.  His words may have seemed small, his lessons may have seemed pointless at the time. But my father did live life with certain principles. Certain ideas that he planted in my mind that I truly believe, would they have not been said, I would not be the man I am today.  I would never have accomplished what I have or dream like i do.

My father made me a dreamer, made me a hard worker and taught me to never ever.... EVER give up my my dreams.

And for that Dad I thank you.  I will continue to live by those principles and your  legacy will be passed onto my son.

I love you and will always miss you.

Your son Jeff

Been trying to redesign my site but I do not have the time or really the graphic design chops to do a good one. I wanted to see if anyone would be open to a barter.  Original piece ( and maybe some other negotiables ) FOR a homepage that simply displays the social networks I am on and a gallery...

Note me or comment with a link to your work if you're interested, please be a pro ( or at least super talented )... I really would like it to be top notch.

LEGACY

Sat Jun 26, 2010, 1:06 PM
I know its been a while since my last journal entry... or my last reply ... or thank you ... or note reply. But I assure you its all for good reason. As in my family and I have moved from Connecticut to Burbank California. No small life change...

Every decision I have made for the past few years has been in the eyes of my son.  Since he was born, I have felt a burning need to be what I wanted my son to be. A person that goes after life.  Treating everyday like its your last and chasing your dreams. However, over the past two years this pursuit has lead to my family struggling.  As we all have been in this economy. And it was starting to build towards a head eight months ago ( Check out my journal entry from September 2009 ... GO WEST NOT SO YOUNG MAN? ).  We were struggling in almost EVERY way possible. At the end of 2009 ( a tough year for me personally ), my wife and I were TRYING to discuss options ... or more accurately daydreaming about heading out to California. Unfortunately, the daydreaming really seemed a nightmare.  The overwhelming number of things we needed to do, set up or for that matter happen ( i.e. things out of our control ) in order to make that happen was just plain disheartening. It was just going to be completely and utterly impossible... or so we thought.

In March/April I did some serious soul searching about every aspect of my life. Every choice I have ever made, every choice I could make and why I made those choices. This included my choice to go full-time comics illustration.I mean I was looking back into what school I chose to go or whether it was ever wise to go back and finish my degree. I kept looking back farther and farther until I started looking into what decisions my parents made and how those affected me. But really it was at that moment that I realized it.

I WAS going in the right direction. I was trying to BE what I wanted my son to be. Live life to its fullest.  Pursue yours dreams... i.e. go big and in that it was inherently scary and difficult. And that was when I realized I was just being challenged... the universe/gaia/god was asking if I am REALLY ready to go all in.  Dreams are not made of only hard work but of gambles as well.  A willingness to go all in when the time is right. Screw all the "obstacles", "problems" or fear for that matter... just jump in and figure it out later.  It was time to "Cowboy Up" as it were. After some discussion with my wife... I booked a flight to California.

I am now working fulltime as a storyboard revisionist here in sunny Burbank, CA. My wife was able to quit her job and is now able to look forward to being a fulltime mom and pursuing her dreams. All of our stuff has been moved into our new apartment and my wife and son are due to arrive in less than two weeks ( I miss them SO much! ).

To be honest, this is an abbreviated version... there are far more details and intermediary things and difficulties that presented themselves ( i.e. I broke my left arm 3 weeks ago! ). AS well as ones that will still present themselves.  But I will not bore you with the details of brick building. I do think though that it is monumentally important to close with special attention given to the families of the Copeland brothers...

:iconchriscopeland: and :iconjusdog:

Words cannot reflect the gratitude I feel towards them and their families. Not only because of their encouragement and their families' incredible hospitality and generosity ( of which w/o would have made this damn near impossible ) or for that matter because they gave me a chance and opportunity and support, but because they were the TA's in this great lesson.  Legacies are not built just with ones hands...

I've been meaning to do a journal entry for a while... but to tell you the truth up until now this is the first time I have anymore that 5 minutes to do anything... the good news... its couldn't be for better reasons...

First off, the book, "Frenemy" I have been working for a few months comes out this May... so NOW would be a good time to pre-order or request at your local comic shop... ;)  I am on book three of five right now and I am really starting to get the feel for it... here's the covers to the first two issues...

Frenemy of the State 1 edit by whoisrico Frenemy of the State 2 by whoisrico

( Both by :iconwhoisrico: )

What's awesome is you can find the 1st cover ALL over the internet since it was optioned ( Doesn't hurt that it is co-written by the beautiful Rashida Jones ( of Parks and Rec ) so the blogs love it :D )

Second, I am just now finishing up the 1st of a four issue mini series of "Darkness: Four Horsemen" for TOPCOW!! ( Yes TOPCOW baby! )  I am doing the pencils AND inks on the covers and interiors.  Here's a little preview if one of the pages...

Darkness 4 Horsemen Pg Detail by jeffwamester

Its a blast but a LOT of work ( especially since I am also doing Frenemy at the same time! ) The story really is brilliant and I am really enjoying myself. That will actually come out in August ( side note: I will also be at San Diego Comiccon in the Top Cow booth, so if your there come find me! )

Ya, its craziness incarnate... AND now back to the drawing board!

I DONE BEEN TAGGED!

Sat Jan 16, 2010, 5:26 PM
The guilty party can found here...

:iconkidchuckle:

1.) Post the rules
2.) Each tagged person tells 8 things about themselves.
3.) At the end tag 8 people and put their icon in your journal.
4.) Then go to their page and leave a comment saying you tagged them.
5.) No tag backs

8 THINGS ABOUT ME:

1. I am on the cusp i.e. I am both a Scorpio AND a Sagittarius... depends on who's chart it is.

2. I spent the first 5 years of my life living on a house boat in the virgin islands.  They literally collected rain for drinking water... My parents were died in wool hippies...

3. On my twelfth birthday my Dad gave me a 20 gauge shotgun... skeet shooting was fun, shooting deer was not... my Dad kinda wished I liked it the other way around.

4. In our house ( after VI ) My Dad made a secret gun compartment by the front door. Oddly, I felt safe.

5. I like drawing by hand and painting digitally, I can't say I enjoy any of that reversed.

6. My favorite superhero growing up was Spiderman followed closely by the Hulk. They were awesome books in the 80's!

7. My favorite villain was Skeletor... I have no idea why.

8. I know how to use just about any gun, I am proficient with the bow and arrow ( regular/recurve/compound, used 'em all ), I am quite accurate with the sling and I can throw just about any knife... I was really into weapons when I was a kid and I scare me.

The following blokes have been marked by the curse of the tag LOL!
