Castlerigg Stone Circle, Cumbria

Location  Castlerigg Cumbria
Watercolours with grey, black pens, white gouache and white gel pens on 16 x 12 ins paper. Situated near Keswick in Cumbria, North West England with panoramic views and the mountains of Helvellyn and High Seat as a backdrop.

It is among the earliest British circles, raised in about 3000 BC during the Neolithic period.

Very well done.

How distant we are from those who built this mysterious place. When I look at stone circles, I wonder what did they imagine they were doing. I rather suspect that even the experts have little better than a supposition what was being accomplished there so very long ago by people whose very language is and will ever be unknown.
