In these sacred halls,
—a homophobe is healed by the hands of a gay doctor,
—a privileged surgeon fights to save a beggar’s life,
—a Jew tends to the wounds of a racist,
—a police officer and a prisoner lie side by side, receiving the same tender care,
—a wealthy soul awaits a transplant from the humble generosity of another.
In hospitals, humanity stands equal.
In these quiet intersections, we glimpse the weaving of God’s design.
Here, we remember: alone, we are nothing.
The deepest truth of a person often surfaces
only through pain,
or in the face of irreversible loss.
Hospitals strip away the masks.
