Wayne White: An Embarrassment Of Talents

:icontechgnotic: Aug 29, 2012 by techgnotic
I am bringing your attention to a documentary, Beauty is Embarrassing, that
deeply inspired me after a screening last week. The life wisdom and positive
philosophy unfolding over a lifetime of living as an artist was deeply motivating.
I invited Wayne White, the subject of this documentary, to join deviantART afterwards.
I thought this would be something you would enjoy no matter where you might be at
on your own personal journey as an artist. While watching this I was also reminded
of the heartfelt explanations by many artists of what it means to choose the life of an Artist.
"Do what you love, It's going to lead where you want to go."
Please stop and say hello and welcome seewaynewhite in his first week at deviantART.

On misunderstandings about cosplay
This is a topic I've been meaning to talk about for quite a while now. I finally got the motivation to when Sarah sorairo-days emailed me to share my thoughts on what cosplay means to me, and what I feel it really means to be a cosplayer despite all the misconceptions about the hobby. It's for this article on Random Nerds, in which Sarah shares her side of it as well.
Over the years, I've witnessed how cosplayers are constantly looked down upon, which makes people apprehensive towards it. It's such a shame because it's a wonderful and rewarding hobby which brings people together. And in general, I am firmly against making anyone feel bad about doing something they want to do.
I am aware that the concept of cosplay might be too much for some individuals, but our intention definitely isn't to get all up in everyone's faces and say everyone should cosplay or whatever.  We just want to promote a

Humans Becoming Robots, Robots Becoming Human

:icontechgnotic: by techgnotic
On March 1, 2012 the Nevada DMV issued the first license for a Google Driverless Car. The idea behind this innovation is that one day soon new technology will drive cars safer and more skillfully than humans, thus saving lives and billions of dollars in car crashes. How well this idea catches on is a bit questionable, given the powerful “romance” of driving one’s car, but it’s certainly an indicator of things to come in the daily intersection of human and artificial intelligence and mobility. There have always been those who have dreamed of stepping into a mechanical exo-skeletal-type “suit” and letting the engineering do the work, ins

Ninja Turtles by lukekeith

The recently announced changes to the core mythos of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the backlash from fans over the ending to Mass Effect 3 have ignited an incredible discussion about the rapidly evolving “collaborative” relationship between producers and consumers of videogames, movies, and similar “products.” Now it’s exploded beyond the secure borders of top news publications,

The Film Poster as Imagination's Portal
The Film Poster as Imagination's Portal

For many of us, the first “art gallery” to command our attention (and constant, even daily, monitoring) in our
lives existed within the pages of the local newspaper. It was called “the movie section” and its ever-changing movie
advertisements were like little frames that rarely contained less than pure magic for young imaginations.

The Film Poster has existed since the earliest days of silent movies and the pulse-elevating excitement of the
first sight of an upcoming adventure, action, or sweeping love story that we might have only “heard good things about”
still packs a psychic punch throughout movie lovers today.

It’s easy to think of art in terms of what is instantly pleasing to the eye, artworks which
evoke a feeling of joy and hopefulness and blissful peacefulness or ecstatic exultation.

This is the consideration of art as something that helps propel us forward through life – to out future great
deeds, our career victories, or dreams of coming big events. But there is a peak to every life. At some point all
people, and all places, and even all ideas have to begin the inevitable decline that is the other balancing half of a lifetime.

Street Magician: The Photography of Chris Weeks

The Street Photography of Chris Weeks

It was only after many long frustrating hours of trying to describe what’s so special about the photographs of cweeks...
That I finally realized I was trying to describe something that wasn’t there.
I finally realized that the magical something that sets cweeks’ works apart from others is that his camera disappears. There is no sense as you look at his photos of street scenes and other captures that you are looking through a lens, even the lens of a particularly talented photographer.  There is a sense of simply walking through a town and seeing what you happen to see – without th

Pin-Up: From Objectification to Empowerment
In researching the history of pin up art I found that before there were the “centerfold girls” there were the “pin-up calendar girls” – the semi-nude young women in lingerie whose photographs adorned calendars sold semi-legally from under the counters of gas stations and truck stops.

When a subject poses to have his or her photograph taken, the subject tries to project a message about himself or
herself by how he or she “poses”, by the attitude of his or her body language or facial expression.
If the subject is posed by the photographer, the body pulled and prodded into the desired angles,
the facial expression “directed”, it is the photographer who is intending to communicate a message.
In either case, posing or posed, there is undeniably something “false” in the representatio

Dear friends,

Oh God. Where have I been all this time? I've been gone away from da for a really long time and I hardly have any idea with what had happened here and my inbox was booming with a shit-ton of deviations.

So, anyway. Holla to everyone!

So I can somehow guess that most of you who watch me...wait that sounds wrong. Seriously, tho. I find it weird to use the word 'watch' so I'll just us the word 'follow' instead.

*clears throat*

So I can somehow guess that most of you who follow me here on da don't remember who I am. Considering how long I've been gone, you can hardly recall why you have watched/followed me in the first place, with the exception of those people who know me personally. So anyway, I'm that Jed who used to cosplay and shit and ended up posting art-stuff only because one thing happened and another thing happened and blah blah.

I just want to bring this account back and get back to kicking some balls, if you know what I mean. So basically, what I'm trying to say here is I'm gonna try to post a lot more stuff and, hopefully, some cosplay stuff. I haven't gone to a convention or a cosplay photoshoot for a long time because of school but I'm gonna try my best to give myself some time for that matter. I have a lot of characters in mind and I really do hope that I'll be able to do most of them. I am also planning to attend MCC this month or whatever con is the most convenient to my schedule. I hope to see and cosplay with some of my friends in the cosplay community again and I hope my experience will always be as amazing as how it was before.

Love always,
