melancholy flower
melon cauliflower

-----
A cauliflower on my head. I'm holding it up with my other hand that's amazingly (at least for self timer) not visible in this shot. Practicing extreme tone editing. Increased midtones and darkened shadows til the point my hair was a black blob. Desaturated slightly...I still have my tan :wtf: . Faded slightly. Frame, watermark, that stuff.
-----
Old concept. Back when I was obsessed with literalism and play on words. Finally got around to buying a cauliflower, not eating it :XD: , and doing this shot.

I just love that your descriptions are so in-depth!

It's really helpful to viewers to know exactly what's going on, and how you did it so that we can learn, and I always love to read about the details behind an image

I absolutely love perusing your gallery!

Thank you  That's the point. So everyone can try it themselves and learn  It's a big pet peeve of mine when I ask artists how they achieve an effect and they claim "it's a secret." Because in the end, it's just some technique like HDRI that's capable of being figured out; just takes a lot longer and would've saved time if they just told me :XD:

Awsum :glomp: I'm really glad you take the time to help others out :D because personally I feel like I would be wasting my time, since I have so few watchers, but you have so many, you certainly aren't wasting your time!

If there is one good thing about me loosing touch with my journal then returning to it a month or so late it is that I get spoilt with a new collection of your work, for you are easily my favorite photographic artist on this site.

Great colours here and the message it sends is great, Your positioning in this shot is woderful and yes well bloody done at the lack of arm thing for a self timer that kicks but!

xoxoox MERRY CHRISTMAS

creative. but! we cannot see that cauliflower clearly, can we?
we get used to your faded colors :P however the background color should have been something darker, in order for us to see the cauliflower.

I like your dress by the way. and that greenish thing under your dress made me think about cauliflowers before they are picked off. :) I mean their leaves and so on :giggle:

I agree that the cauliflower is a bit hard to see. But the problem is that if the background was any darker color, extreme tone editing wouldn't have worked. The background would end up like my hair; a giant black blob. :XD:

I'm not exactly sure how to respond to "we get used to your faded colors". It sounds almost as if you expect me to create because I have an audience to appease =P . If art is truly your self expression, whether the audience "get[s] used to" your mode of expression should be irrelevant ;)

Depends on which tools your program has, and whether those tools are also available in other programs. I'm using The GIMP, and I found I can make use of most Photoshop tutorials. If you want to make a tutorial, don't go into the details such in which menu to go or which shortcut to use. Just explain what you did, and people who know their way around their own graphic program can follow your steps. (For example: What exactly did you increase about the midtones?)

I just thought there was some big white flower on your head, didn't even notice it was a cauliflower. So I mused about melancholy until I spotted your dress and burst out laughing! Reminds me of a cauliflower with leaves, that green :giggle: Nifty play on props and clothes  Great pun, the only thing missing is a melon to make the pun complete :D

(And now I finally noticed the pun in Smashing Pumpkins' album "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" :slow:)
