The Splat Factory #2: Tour and Loathing in Orlando by jbwarner86 The Splat Factory #2: Tour and Loathing in Orlando by jbwarner86
I told you I'd come back to this someday! :D I'm too much of a '90s Nickelodeon kid at heart to abandon my goofy little tribute to the network's golden age. I took the Nickelodeon Studios tour twice, in 1993 and again in 1995, and while it wasn't quite this weird, it was still the experience of a lifetime for someone like me who was raised on a steady diet of Weinerville and Rocko's Modern Life. If I can't go back anymore, I can at least draw this :)

I never found that bumper scary. It was more weird than anything else.

God, how I miss 90s Nickelodeon. I didn't get satellite at my home till 1999, so being able to see that channel at certain places was always a special treat.

I'm always blown away on how your really great at making drawings, comics, and characters getting the right tone, humor, body and facial expressions that is so great that rival the greats like Bill Wattarson, Chuck Jones, Tex Avery. Your an inspiration Mr. jbwarner86 to little cartoon fans/beginning cartoonists/artists like myself with amazing work you put out, like great comics like Nineteen Niney-something and this comic here. I love this comic series so far that gives the right mix of 90's cheese, lovable memories of great network in there hayday, and gifting experiences that most may have forgotten about/not have experienced at all in the wildly, but wonderfully weird world of 90's nick! :) Your one lucky duck to have experience the studio tour as a kid, and twice no less!! And you certainly capture the imagination and fun of a kid vising the slimest place on earth, with some good jokes that snappy, sharp and most of all so 90's that I laughed and cracked a big smile! :D So overall great comic like always that makes me feel like a kid agian seeing great cartoons like Rocko, Rugrats, and other stuff while seeing the imaginary inner workings of Nickelodeon of the 90's! :)   Thanks Mr. jbwarner86, you a great artist and I can't wait to see more great art from ya!! :) :) No that you need this wacko fanboy to tell you what you already know, never hurts to be reminded you know though huh? ;) Your fan, cartooneteer!

I mean, for what it's worth, Nickelodeon Studios still exists - it just moved from Orlando to Los Angeles. It's on Sunset Boulevard now in what used to be the Aquarius Theater. It's just not as high profile for tourists as it used to be because it's not part of a theme park anymore.

I used to live in L.A. and let me tell you, it isn't worth it, ingelwood right off century boulevard next to LAX. I have been to the theater, it is not the same.

That was what inspired my first one of these :) I wish I could find the tour video they were using when I went there, because it was a lot of fun too. There was a bit on Soundstage 19 where Marc Weiner walked through the prop department ("This is Zip, he gets thrown around a lot...oh, and here's my shoe, I've been looking for that...")

Is that a private bathroom? As a sufferer of OCD, I imagine that Marc Summers would try to avoid using a public restroom as much as he possibly could.

This is brilliant! :D

When they stopped using their Orlando studio, it was as if the magic faded with it.

I remember watching the "Pinchface" bumper on Nick when I was a kid, too. Strangely enough, the bumper didn't scare me when I saw it decades ago, and it still doesn't scare me now.
