Birds of the Water by jbwarner86 Birds of the Water by jbwarner86
Been a while since I did any underwater celebrity caricatures, hasn't it? I'm sure a lot of people who are around my age knew what it was like growing up in the late '90s with a sister who was obsessed with the Spice Girls. I was in fifth grade when the world was briefly overthrown by girl power, and even though I'm down with feminine empowerment and all that jazz, these girls' extremely loud brand of pop music was never my thing...but in the interest of full disclosure, I'd be lying if I said young me didn't have a bit of a crush on all of them to at least some degree :) It was a hell of a conundrum to reconcile for a 10-year-old.

I remember my sister dragging the whole family to see Spice World in the winter of 1998, which I could already tell from the trailers was going to be wall-bangingly stupid, and I thought to myself "If there's at least a decent underwater scene in this, it'll be worth it." It was not worth it. But hopefully, this drawing is.

Ahh, the Spice Girls...I admit freely, for quite a few years indeed I had a huge crush on Emma Bunton aka Baby Spice. :) Still do, to some degree I guess... ;)

As for their movie, Spiceworld - sure, it was never going to be a high water-mark of quality film-making, but it was a very cute, funny romp through the life of a fictionalised version of the group that I, at least, found pretty entertaining. :giggle:

16 year-old me definitely wanted to take Emma Bunton to pound town. ;P

Well, you're Mr. Pigtails, I'm not surprised :)

Far as I know, Emma was the only Spice Girl who ever did an underwater scene. She did a cover of Edie Brickell's "What I Am" when she went solo, and from what I've heard, she was underwater quite a bit in the music video for it. Sadly, it's region-locked on YouTube for us unlucky blokes outside the UK :/

My sister loved the Spice girls as well. She had it on vhs and made everyone watch it. Young me was like..."Whaaaa?"

It HAS been a while, and I'm happy to say that you haven't lost that touch. Nice work.

Never saw the movie. But maybe that's because my youngest sister was more into Hanson at the time.

I certainly knew them when they were dominating the music scene. Some of their songs aren't that bad today. And I will admit... I still think Victoria (Posh Spice) was hot in the Say You'll Be There music video.

But at least the movie was better than the video game that was released with it:…
all the girls underwater thats what i want "what i really really want" cant believe no one said that joke yet. Spice girls was around in my childhood but only know the songs cause of my sister. another british band was my childhood at summertimes. s club 7 they were called. dont know how popular they were in the US but were big in uk

The girls in the band Hannah Rachel JO and Tina should be underwater together.

I hope in another underwater portrait of actresses
maybe Lindsay Lohan, I liked it in his first films, in "Parent's trap" there is a scene almost underwater: where one of the twins has to bathe in the lake at night ... you could do a completely underwater version that was not included in film

There's another actress back in the 1960s who could desserve a underwater scene as well. Emma Peel, performed by actress Diana Rigg in the British series The Avengers got a river fight with a free diver.…

Nice job!
Plenty of birds. I spotted tits, hooters, and boobies right away.
