1990S - Crystal Clear and Present Danger by jbwarner86 1990S - Crystal Clear and Present Danger by jbwarner86

People were asking me when I'd get to Crystal Pepsi in Nineteen-Ninety-Something. Their prayers are finally answered, though I don't think they were expecting me to be this cynical about it. I think I'd just gotten off Facebook right before I wrote this one or something.

I still have trouble understanding why people feel the need to hurt each other. Our time here is already so brief, what good does it do to cut that even shorter?

Step one: develop a simplistic worldview in which one group of people is solely responsible for everything bad about the world
Step two: isolate yourself in communities full of people who agree with you, and trust no one but them
Step three: believe all negative rumors spread around that group about "those people," and become more and more enraged
Step four: decide that any action is justifiable as long as it's done against the group you've blamed for everything
Step five: Violence

Those acts of violence, in turn, will validate the other side's prejudices about YOU, which leads to MORE violence, and on and on.....

No one is immune from this cycle. Plenty of folks, from all sides of politics, are deep in step one or two and don't realize it.

Too greedy and proud? Compared to WHO? The Roman Empire? The British Empire? The Persian Empire, themselves?
America never tried to take over the world, though they tried to tidy up the unheaped trash-heap of a few other countries and got owned/pwned/pantsed by China when their back was turned. Who cares about someone's parking spot blowing up anyway? It's an isolated matter that's not even an inconvenience compared to daily traffic.

Meh, I never was a Pepsi fan, so I could never get into the Crystal flavor.

When I heard they were bringing it back, my first thought was, "Man, the Cinema Snob is gonna love this!"

As for the bit about the World Trade Center... (tugs on collar) yeah... hindsight is kind of a bitch...

Yeah people like Katy and her friend are unfortunately far too common in this world.

I mean I enjoy Crystal Pepsi myself, but at least most of my reason for trying it is due to both the fact I really love soda, and the anime FLCL, but really, ignorant consumerism is a genuine problem in this world.

Ignorant consumerism is problem, but not as much as ignorant anger.

Quite true, and a good thing to point out as well :)

Are you going to send a copy of this strip to Brad Jones?

You people put out stuff like Crystal Pepsi and then you wonder why someone wants to blow up your buildings.

As a child born in the 90s, I never really got to experience all the pop culture or modern events that took place during that decade (aside from the cartoons of course :D). And recently, I just started reading your comics, and I find them very satirical and ironically truthful about the 90s. Well done sir, and keep up the 90s awesomeness!

8 years later, Katy probably looked back on that convo and realized 'Damn it to hell! Why did my mind float away like that?!!!'.

Actually, I know a trick to make Coke crysal clear too. It is said to still taste the same but the whole thing looks so disgusting I wouldnt want to drink the end result, so I never tried it myself
