Although tbh when I was a beginner it always made me happy to see so many self-taught artists, just because I was always kind of worried that unless you had professional lessons you couldn't be a successful artist.
But of course, I've long since learned that you absolutely don't need lessons to be successful (although they can help.)
After all, art is what you make of it and success is a very relative thing:'D

I think a VAST majority are self-taught...I don't think anyone goes for an art class who has never once put pencil to paper. Folks with a passion for art have been practicing it, even accidentally, long before they first seek tutoring...
