My family celebrates it the christian way. They dont have Santa Claus (since he is made up by coca cola actually but I am sure you know that already xD). But since I (for myself) are not part of any religion I celebrate it just as a nice family feast. To get all together and anjoy a nice meal and nice evening. Plus here in germany we share presents at 24th evening. Not in the morning of 25th :3 But actually the present train is gone for me xD so I just will enjoy the holidays and my weird family.
...a white horse? Really? Never heard of that. How is that "dude" called? xD
Same here! And that dude is caled Sinterklaas, but he isn´t around during Christmas, i guess you could say we swapped Christmas and Thanksgiving by ways of celebration. At the day Sinterklaas arrives, the children set one of their shoes down somewhere and stick a scroll with their wishlist written on it in it, sometimes they leave an apple or carrot behind for Amerigo, wich is Sinterklaas´ white horse that helps him travel across the rooftops. And at the 5th of December it´s present eve, that´s when the bigger presents arrive and when the whole family comes together to open them, sometimes along with watching TV or playing a game.
Sinterklaas is actually short for Sint Nicolaas, Nikolaustag sounds alot like that last name. *0* Yeah, same. My grandfather´s birthday was at the second day of Christmas, so it was still a pretty big thing, but he passed away a year or two ago, Rest In Peace.
yes xD I guess it has the same history. Oh sorry to hear. We will have a very sad christmas this year as well. My Grandmother is in the hospital since thursday and needs a surgery. She still waits for it and she might not get out till next year =A= sucks. But well, could be worse.
