The Apprentice's Quest - Original Style Cover by Jayie-The-Hufflepuff The Apprentice's Quest - Original Style Cover by Jayie-The-Hufflepuff
This is something I've been wanting to do for a while, but I thought it was best to wait for all six AVOS books to be released so I could determine how best to design the cover for each one. I love both of the cover styles for Warriors, and Owen's cover art is gorgeous, but there's something very nostalgic for me about the old style for Warriors covers, and I do miss it.

So I decided that, once all of the AVOS books were out, I would design Wayne-style covers for each of them. I'm nowhere near Wayne's level, obviously, but I figured it'd be fun to draw the covers in his style. So here is the first of those covers, and of course we're starting with book one in the series, The Apprentice's Quest. ^^

Boy can I not draw rocks. XD I keep looking at rock shading tutorials and I really want to learn different ways to give rocks different texture and shape, but every time I go to try it myself it always ends up "vaguely smooth round rocks with weird shapes". Ah well. The river looks kind of weird too, but at least all together with the vegetation and such it looks decent. It's meant to be part of the gorge that SkyClan uses as their camp, by the by. I figured that would make sense for the cover, since it's where they spent the book trying to get to. I decided to have it around sunset with the warmer colors, I think it's a good look for it, and it's kinda a shoutout to the really reddish hues of Owen's cover.

The cat in the center is, of course, Alderpaw. ^^ I tweaked his design a bit to fit better with his father's new design, and I'll hopefully upload a sheet with his new design soon, probably just a tweaked version of the old ref sheet. I'm actually really happy with how he turned out. He's meant to be apprentice-aged here, hence how young he looks, and I love how the shading and the worried expression and how all of it turned out. :D

Overall, I'm really happy with how this turned out. :D

I was just wondering, did you do this by hand or on a device? It looks computer-generated, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasnt.

I was thinking about doing this too one day, along with changing the Seekers books to look like the new Warriors books, haha. It's cool to see you thought of the same thing. :D
