It came to my attention earlier today that today, January 21st, is the anniversary of the release of Into the Wild. As that is the first Warriors novel, that makes today the anniversary of the beginning of the entire series, making it Warriors's birthday. But some time later, I discovered that not only was it just any anniversary, but its 15th anniversary. That seemed like a pretty solid, important number of years for this series to still be going, so I felt it warranted celebrating.
So here, we have Firestar, the protagonist of that first novel, and one of the main heroes of the entire series, looking calmly out at something over his shoulder in front of a peaceful leafy background, along with the words congratulating the series on this milestone.
I decided to show Firestar as an elderly cat here, both because that's about how he would've looked when he died, though maybe not quite this old, but also as a way of showing Firestar as a stand-in for the series as a whole, and how far it's come and how many years it's seen.
I tested some stuff out with trying to show him as more elderly here, with graying around his nose, muzzle, and eyes, and wrinkles around his muzzle and eyes. I'm not totally satisfied with it, but I think it still gets the point across. ^^ I also tried out something new with the eyes, I like how it turned out, I might incorporate it more in the future. ^^
This was mostly just a quick little doodle, but I am still pretty happy with how it turned out. ^^ I was kinda relaxing and nice to just draw Firestar as this elderly tom, taking a moment to relax and rest after serving his Clan for so long.
So yeah, happy birthday Warriors!
A huge thanks to the Erins, who have worked for so many years to bring this series to us and to continue the stories of the characters that we've grown to love.
Here's hoping for many more years ahead!
