Choices Matter 23

Riley: Hey hey what are doing? You almost died and you were in a coma for three days you need lay back down.

Molly: No........Riley I don't have insurance I can't afford this.

Riley: Molly I don't want you to worry about that it's already been taken care of.

Molly: Please I can't pay anybody back.

Riley: Molly you are in no condition to leave right now. I don't want you to worry about the hospital bill you need to get better. I have already taken care of it.

Molly begins to cry.

Molly: Please Riley I can't afford to pay you back I don't have any money.

Riley: Let me make this clear you don't owe me anything.

I take Molly's hand and I look into her eyes.

Riley: Look Molly you are going to have a long road to recovery and I am not just talking about the physical aspect of it. I know what you have been through and I want you to understand that you have family now and that this family will never hurt you.

Molly: Thank you but I think I just need to get better and get back to my apartment. I got to call my boss do you think The Doctors know how long I will be here for? I need to get back to work.

Riley: Molly..........I don't know how to tell you this but your apartment building burnt down. There is nothing left. I also got in touch with the restaurant you work at to tell them that your ok and your boss told me he had to give away your shifts.

Molly: My apartment.........is gone?????

Riley: I am so sorry Molly.

Molly: What am I supposed to do? Everything I had was in that apartment. My pictures of Dad, that was all I had left of him.......I don't have a job?????

Molly than cries much harder than she did before. I embrace her and I let her cry until she can't cry anymore.

Molly: I have no where to go.

Riley: That's not true. I told you that you have family now and family takes care of it's own. I have an extra room for you and I promise you won't have to work while you are recovering.

Molly: Riley.....I'm sorry I can't......

Riley: You can and you will.

Molly: Ok but it's only temporary

I take Molly's hand again and this time she smiles at me.
