Well well... a journal.  Not sure if anyone reads this section but if you do then "HELLO!".

I've been working full time with barely any free time to post art, interact, and have a larger presence on Deviant Art.  But I dig the site and hope that you keep on stopping by for updates.  While most people know me as a Magic The Gathering artist, I have a wide range of art & skills.  Within the next year I will be posting more personal pieces and being more active in the community.

Till then, hello to anyone reading this!!!  If you have requests or comments I'd love to hear from yah!

Do you post on tumblr too? I'm there the most and would love to add ya!

Trust me... same here.   I actually started out as an artist for White Wolf games illustrating Vampires and werewolves.  Monsters are where my passion lives too.

For tumblr, just started an account 2 weeks ago.  Its: jasonfelix-artist.tumblr.com/

Love your work and I can't wait to see more. Whenever I see cool art posted online it just fires me up for the day to try and produce some of my own!

I wanted to to ask if you've ever posted tutorials/work processes of any kind online for people to buy?

also, if you got the time, and if it's not too much of a hassle, would it be possible to get a quick portfolio critique from you? I'm trying to build my way up to becoming an illustrator/concept artist, but haven't quite gotten the traction l need to do get full time work. Any suggestions and comments on my art would be greatly appreciated!

Keep up the awesome work! And I wish you many more successful years to come!
Cheers

Glad that you are motivated by art posted online!  I'm the opposite, seeing so much GREAT work online gets me down, so good for you on that.

Flattered that you like my work and writing.  I don't have a tutorial/work process online because I am constantly changing how I approach my artwork.  Sometimes its just straight painting, hammering away on it till it looks right.  Other times I used some 3d programs. Sometimes is mashing photos with painting, etc. Besides, the amount of tutorials ONLINE via Youtube is just bananas!!!  So many great free art tutorials, could easily take year to watch them all.  Just a matter of what you want to learn, the is the key.

About taking a look at your work, sure thing when I get some freetime.  I'm gearing up for a big show and some travels, so write to me in last August and will see then.

The overall key to success as an artist is having a very specific focus.  Concept design?  Production design?  Illustration?  Marketing art?  Etc.

So, that is your first question.  What is IT that you want to do?

Second question!  And what artist is your 'role model' in terms of saying "He or She is doing exactly the work/job that I want".

Hi Jason!

We're a little past August now (wow how the time goes by!) and so to answer your questions from your previous reply:

I do enjoy doing concept art for characters, but I'd say that my portfolio, and therefore my passion definitely leans more onto the illustrative side. As long as I'm drawing characters I'm happy.

And for question number two. I'm a big fan of what Dan Luvisi has done for himself so far, with creating his own IP and publishing his books. That being said, I'd still one day love to have the opportunity to create work for the likes of Wizards of the Coast and whatnot.

Anyways, if you have the time to check out my stuff and tell me what you think that would be awesome! But if not, no hard feelings. I get that you must be super busy on your end. It was nice to enough to get a response from you from my first comment on your journal.

Keep up the fantastic work! You created some lovely images for the recent set of Magic.

Cheers!

Cool!  And good to hear your answers.

I took at look at your work... its good, but keep on going.  Think, at this point for you, it will require creating TONS and TONS of art.  Mileage and time.  Everything else eventually falls into place.

Most excellent!  Thanks for letting me know.  I've been hammering away on 3 personal projects, each is 1/3 completed.  Just need to focus on one now and see it finished.  WHen I do select one, I'll be sharing with everyone as the project moves into the final stages and see each step of the way.  At least, that is the ideal!

Thanks for taking a moment to write and share.  For the past 8 years I have been working as a freelancer.  Some years, its slow and I have time to work on my personal work.  Other years, such as 2015-2016 has been grid-locked with more work than I am use to.  No complaints other than socializing and posting becomes a rare commodity.  Anywho!  Thanks for checking in and sticking around:-)

I can't wait to see more works from you. I love your magic stuff a ton!.

Do you plan on working on a larger project like a story using your personal pieces?

Its been cool to be able to work on Magic.  Years ago, I never thought it would be possible as the competition is very high. But something about my work, or my style, grabbed their attention (thank goodness).

Great question about my larger personal projects... the answer is "Yes".  I have always pride myself in being able to build worlds visually that lend themselves to a narrative.  But never focused on what the narrative is, so now my workload is being split into spending more time writing than crafting art.  Its a power struggle, now trying to find a balance where I can work in tandem to see the projects completed before years go by.

Thanks Joe!  I'm really hopeful that my next personal project, or projects, will connect with everyone.  With interested minds comes support to keep going... so thank you!
