Okay, just back from the multiplex...

The verdict on Wolverine?
Not good.
But you probably knew that, because unlike me, you probably paid attention to the buzz around the premature digital release, or even watched it.

To me it's pretty similar to Hulk, in that, I didn't really ever get engaged or into anything they were doing. But unlike Hulk, that was the case throughout... at least the Hulk had a solid start.

For me the whole movie felt like wrapping my head around what they were doing with the story and continuity from the comics, spotting elements that didn't belong in a flick set around the late 70's (an S-10 pickup a couple times, a totally modern bus shelter in front of a school, etc), and just being underwhelmed in general.

It was entertaining and watchable, but not much else.

Wolverine was the best part about the original X-flick, and none of that character magic is found here, the closest you get is a Sawyer moment, when Logan calls some obscure Indian name koo-koo-kachoo.

Will-I-am was terrible.

The gun guy (so lame, I don't recall his name or recognize him from the comics) was terrible.

Ryan Reynolds could've been great as Deadpool/Wade Wilson, but he was underused, and then mismanaged/mangled by a Hollywood interpretation of him in the end.
Not to say he couldn't make a great character for a flick of his own... but it would have to be done much better than this, and I suspect Wolverine won't do big enough bank to fuel any Weapon-X-centric spin offs.
*****SPOILERS ON
But I hated what they did by giving him retractable swords

And I really didn't care for what they did with Sabertooth. From his design... ooh trenchcoats! To his odd cat like powers... ooh he's a cheetah!! To the reworking of the backstory to make him... Wolverine's brother... ooohhhh!
Otherwise Liev Schrieber wasn't too bad...
SPOILERS OFF*****

If you must see it, I understand, but wait for DVD/Blu-ray if you can... and yes, stick around for the full credits.
The first jump in is lame, but there's another, slightly cooler bit at the very end.

I've just skipped ahead here to write my own comment - not bothering to check if people wrote very much the same as I'm about to (which they probably have) - but frankly I don't care. I'm just so glad that someone else, who's work I admire, shares very much the same opinion and who will understand completely when I say exactly how disappointed I was with the new Wolverine flick. It was AWFUL! I was made angrier by the fact that two friends of mine had already seen it before me and BOTH told me "oh yeah, it's really good." No. It wasn't.
As you pointed out - they raped Deadpool. How the hollywood execs could RUIN one of my FAVOURITE characters so far beyond recognition I just don't understand. Alright, teleportation sure. But what the hell!? He doesn't have Cyclops' power! He doesn't have retractable swords in his arms! HE'S THE MERC with the MOUTH! WHY WAS HIS MOUTH SEALED SHUT!? And where was the skin condition!? Ugh. So angry.
What the hell happened with Gambit!? There was no saucy cajun accent! There was no sly charm! He showed up for about three lines - to knock Wolverine through a wall, fly him to Three Mile Island, and then say "I'm a friend!... I'll see ya later!" Waste of a character.
TERRIBLE "origin": My buddy and I were psyched to see Wolverine's journey through time - to fight in all the wars, etc.. Instead it all happened DURING THE OPENING CREDITS! Lame. How did he build the cabin on top of a mountain? "Making fun of native culture is funny! Their beliefs are silly!" Lame.
Alright, so even if an adamentium bullet could go through his adamentium skull, and even if his brain and skin heal, there are still TWO HOLES someone in the front of his skull.

You said pretty much everything else. Terrible movie. Just terrible. I haven't seen Star Trek yet but it's gotta be friggin' Oscan worthy compared to Wolverine.

Well, now that I'm done being an angry nerd - thanks for letting me vent! Have a good one! :D
