Global economy crashes as faith in international business collapses, global politics strain. Many nations have to rework their economic infrastructure to be more independent, international politics are tense as some look at the possibility of reinvigorating their economies through conquest.

Boston Dynamics is bankrupt as the USA withdraws its military funding during the economic restructure. The chief programmer, Howard Choi, uploads his innovative robotics program on the net. This program would be renamed by the net as the FAP (Frame Articulation Program).

Lewis Schnieder, using the program of Choi, creates his “boxmech”. This cheap 3d printed mech starts trending on social media, showing how easy and cheap this technology has become.

Ukraine invaded by russia. The battle of “The Great Bear Hunt” takes place. Ukrainians deploy tactical mechs, despite this being their first use in combat they are used to great effect. Mechs are proven to be excellent in urban fighting. The term “STM” (scout tactical mech) is popularized.

BoDyn is established from the remnants of boston dynamics, stocks rise with the interest in mechs. The resurrected company, with Howard Choi at the head, receives a lucrative government contract in developing the future of American tactical mech forces. BoDyn starts work on the DTM (drone tactical mech).

As their economy is devastated, Japan is vulnerable to the Yakuza and other crime syndicates trying to take advantage of the crisis. Criminals start using STMs in ever escalating violence. The JSDF develops the1st “MTM” (Main Tactical Mech) class to combat this new wave of mech crime.

A Liberian terrorist cell uses STMs to take over the US embassy in jerusalem. These cheaply made “cellmechs” are capable of vaulting over and bypassing traditional vehicle barricades. It was clear that tactical mechs would have to be used, If this hostage crisis is to be resolved.

The US embassy is taken back by new BoDyn DTMs controlled by US Marines. There are minimal casualties to hostages, no casualties of the marines (as only the drone mechs are sacrificed), and the terrorist cell is completely wiped out.

Taiwan is conquered by china. China’s newly formed “People's Mechanized Army” accomplishes this with the largest drone invasion force seen to date, this massed mech invasion overwhelms Taiwan's defences.  After the failure of the UN and the USA to intervene in this and Ukraine, faith in globalism tanks.

Global politics fail, the UN is disbanded, a new nuclear treaty is signed between Russia/China/USA, the MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) doctrine is redefined to only prevent invasion of the countries with nukes. The nations incapable of producing nukes and those who had dismantled their nuclear arsenals are soon to become prime real estate.

The drone wars begin, the 3rd and 2nd world countries are carved apart by the big 3, USA, China, and Russia. Other 1st world countries can only hope to grab and hold nearby bordering territory.

A revitalized “Free Hong Kong” movement briefly fights off China by using new ECM (Electronic Countermeasures) tech to disable the PMA drone force, showing the fault of over relying on a drone military. While China rushes to develop human operated mechs to retake Hong Kong, ECM proliferates and ends the brief and violent drone age.

While DTMs are proven to be unreliable in the coming wars between the Big 3, the tacmech (tactical mech) arms race begins.

The conquered territories of the Big 3 are developed. Massive networks of infrastructure are created by armies of cheap construction mechs. Any previous Nuclear programs are dismantled in favor of the latest Thorium Molten Salt reactors. This new reliance on Thorium power prevents the development of nuclear weapons in the 3rd world (preventing them from joining the new nuclear treaty). The “Colonies” are established, and USA,China, and Russia prepare for the colony wars.
