Beta Test: Report Modal And Notifications
Thanks to everyone for your help testing the updated design of the Modal. We're still making tweaks before a wider release, but your comments were essential to helping us corner some issues! Our next phase is ready for Beta, and once again, we need your help! Sometimes deviants genuinely aren't sure what constitutes as Mature Content, Explicit, or some of our other reportable types of information. This feature brings three new aspects of reporting to help streamline our process and keep DeviantArt as safe as possible. CEA Update : Defining pornography in Literature
It has been long assumed that the literature guidelines could be inferred from the guidelines governing image submissions, however actual feedback from the gallery Directors who interact with the literature community has indicated that this assumption is incorrect and that many members willfully feign confusion over the rules in order to submit clearly pornographic content. To this end we will attempt to first clarify the perceived differences between allowed erotic literature and the type of literature which should be deemed pornographic and therefore prohibited. I would like to specifically point out that the explanations and guidelines th
CEA UPDATE 20090130, Issues Involving Copying
Tracing, Copying and Other Issues Involving Duplication of Existing Works The Copyright & Etiquette Administration here at deviantART is often presented with challenges, one of the most basic and important of which involves helping artists enforce their rights over their own original work. It is inescapable that when you gather millions of artists together into a central location which is filled to the brim with their individual ideas and creativity several things are going to happen; separ

No, your browser has not taken an odd turn and decided to display deviantART in a wacked out manner.  Welcome to DAv3!

Our resident programming expert chris and CSS god pachunka, along with a number of other folks, have created the future of deviantART. DAv3, while online, is still a work in progress but we wanted to launch it for everyone.  There are outstanding issues so do not be surprised if something does not work, or does not work as planned.  Hang in there as we are continuing to fix all these "problems."

So, what is new?  Here is a list of what is new with DAv3. It does not contain the countless DAv2 bugs that have been fixed but, rather, just the major points of DAv3 and Napalm.

  • SPEEEEEEEEEEED
  • Completely skinnable interface with skins for past designs
    • Version 3 and Version 2 available to everyone
    • Version 1 (Classic) and others available to subscribers
  • Deviations
    • Submission
      • Multiple step process
      • Automatically shows writing submission form for poetry/prose
      • EXIF data is extracted from images taken with digital cameras and displayed (info such as camera model, shutter speed, date taken)
    • Editing
      • Rewritten from scratch
      • Really works now
    • Multiple levels of categories
  • Browsing
    • Browse views, consistent across deviantART: Browsing, Galleries, Searching, etc
    • Larger 150x150 pixel thumbnails for subscribers
    • Mature content filter
    • Separate category and subcategory select boxes, filled by javascript
  • Comments
    • Comment views
      • Nested, shows replies indented below the parent
      • Threaded, shows one level of replies
      • Flat, same as version 2
      • None, for dialup users or users who don't want to see comments
    • Comment ordering
    • Per-page limits
    • Comment rating system
    • Minimum comment rating, so low rated comments are hidden
    • Ability to hide signatures, avatars, and the comment rating select box
  • User pages
    • Added Yahoo! Messenger ID
  • Messages
    • Each section is limited to 25, with a more link for people with many messages
    • Checkboxes beside each message allow you to mark individual messages as read
    • Added journal watch to show new journals by your friends

  • Redone journal editor allows you to edit previous journals
  • Notes
    • Can create your own fully nestable notes folders
    • Limited to 50 per page with links to each page
    • Your friends list is shown below the recipient field when sending a new note, allowing you to quickly send a note to a friend
    • Sent Items can be deleted, without deleting the note from the recipient's Inbox
    • You can see the entire recipient list of a note addressed to multiple users
  • Friends
    • Single list of friends with checkboxes beside each user to add or remove that friend from your deviantList, deviation watch or journal watch
    • Ability to create friend groups which allow you to group your friends so you can address notes to the group, as well as show groups in a tree in the deviantList
  • Forum
    • Nested, so replies show below parent
    • Comment rating system
  • Random deviant and random deviation features
  • Email address confirmation
    • Email addresses must be confirmed before they can be used, reducing abuse
    • Each email address is limited to 3 accounts
  • Settings
    • Geographic coordinates, automatically puts the appropriate tags on your user page and pings GeoURL
    • User configurable time zones which show dates and times on the site in your time
  • Far more backend changes than we can list here, resulting in a faster and less buggy site all around.

:bulletred: :pointr: Features that are still to come:

  • Deviation and Writing browse views
  • Notification
    • Via notes, email or your cellphone
    • A wide variety of events can be configured to send notifications
  • Collections (previously devpacks)
  • The ability to edit your signature
  • ...and more!

The final free stuff giveaway will be postponed until tomorrow.  However, if you have visited deviantART today then you will be eligible to win any of the prizes so do not fret!  Thanks for a highly eventful and extremely fun birthday bash. :-)

H'mmm... I have a question about the skins of the site...
I read: version 1, 2 and 3 and others in this article. When I go to "settings" and see the drop-down of "Site Skin" it only shows me "Minimal" and "Version 2". Were the other versions suppoosed to apperar there?

I like the look of everything...BUT!!!!!

1. The header being this ugly depressing grey thing, I still can't change.

2. No personal signatures...I feel the need for everyone to have one...that I miss extremely.

3. The fact that we aren't able to view recent dev submissions from our dev. watch folks as thumbnails is terrible..that saved me a lot of time as to whether or not I actually wanted to look and comment

4. With the response, lazy people take advantage of just responding, without taking time to visit your page and look around and thank you personally

5. With all the new options, I feel page coloration should be able to be changed personally...I am getting sick of looking at a grey website.

6. I am missing my emoticon legend on every visible writing space and the option to Preview my entries...

7. There are a lot of things I still don't comprehend.

PLEASE HELP US POOR DEVIANTS!!!!

Maybe someone already mentioned this, but I don't see it clearly stated for things yet to come. On our userpages there is the recent deviations submissions. I enjoyed seeing how many views downloads etc. the last couple I uploaded had without having to look at them individually. Any news on this still being added.

Besides that little complaint, I love the new DA... much faster, cleaner, and the new features are great. Keep up the great work guys!

dev3's not as buggy anymore. but please, bring back the thumbnails in people's devwatches. i don't think anyone prefers the watch w/o them. it's so much more simple to be able to quickly browse and see what you want to comment on, than having to open every link, to find you only really want to see one or 2 pics.

i've seen several other people mention this, i hope you take it into consideration.

seems a lot faster, less buggy and generally more optimised, a job well done indeed, seriously enjoying the improved speed and clarity

drop that ass like its hot.

bug in journal (list of entries goes through table at bottom)
i dont like the new submission system and inbos display (no thumbnails is bad)

otherwise, another great DA layout

problem: on my club's page, you can't see the box where you can type in gallery comments at the bottom.

as well, are we going to get our devwatch thumbnails back? same goes for comments - i'd rather just read them all on one page than have to click on each one individually..

Has anyone noticed that the AIM link on ppl userpage doesn't work: "aim:goaim?screenname=UserName& message=deviantART+rocks+your+world+to?& quot; I think goaim, should be changed to goim. So the URL should look like this "aim:goim?screenname=Username&m essage=deviantART+rocks+your+world+to&qu ot;

hi,

im a mac user mostly, (i dont have my own computer yet so im stuck having to mostly use the net at work).

I think this site is great, and started using it fully on ur 3rd bday and it worked nicely, cept a lil slow here n there.

But like a day or two later u redid it and now things dont view right, frames are overlapping other frames, portions of text are stretched out so the page goes on and on and on, and there are lots of buttons u cant see on macs, like u cant get to forums etc unless sumone tells u the address. So i was a bit gutted.

im on a pc at the moment and it works beautifully.
Im just a lil peeved again that people dont seem to take care of mac users, when designing for the internet, and this being an ART site, i would have thought macs would have been taken into account more, as theyre used a hell of a lot in this field u know?

Anyway, just my two pennies worth. I do love this site tho, so much to see and do. So i wont let it stop me from visiting. :O)
