I've been posting a lot about our lovely Shining Ascension comic: shiningascension.com but it's been brought to my attention that this hasn't been updated for a while:

Lancer Boxer Dog Commission by Jarahamee Icelandic Goat 2 by Jarahamee The Howling Wolf Anthro realistic soft sculpture by Jarahamee

RULES FOR COMMISSIONS(Please read)

1. It will cost 100-300 dollars depending on what I am making.
Examples:
Close to 100 dollars: A solid-colored animal
Close to 200 dollars: An animal with a simple two colored pattern, like a lion, or husky
Close to 300 dollars: An animal with a complicated pattern, like a tricolor wolf, coyote, a realistic fox, etc.
THE WORLD BEYOND: Something particularly elaborate or with multiple parts: See complicated fantasy animals, jointed insects, etc.

Trades: I may consider certain trades at certain times, the trade offered has to be of equivalent value but can include other plushes, or paintings, etc. Commissions will take priority.

2. I'm only interested in making realistic animals or anthro animals. This includes horses, reptiles, dinosaurs, lions, foxes, bears, sharks, or basically any vertebrate animal (Or invertebrate). I am willing to consider fantasy animals if you can give me some really good pictures (Rendered in a realistic style, I am not good at making cartoon animals). If you want me to make a fursona, please provide me with good references. I may charge for additional unrealistic colors like red, purple or green, that I have to buy for your commission specifically).

I am OVERJOYED to do pets, but please give me at least four images of the pet from both sides, top and back. More images will mean more accuracy.

I never reuse patterns. I cannot perfectly remake an old commission I did before because I am improving as time goes on and I also threw that pattern away a long time ago. I am not excited to remake something old but I am happy to make something similar. :)

3. Its will be between 12 and 16 inches long. No giant pillow animals. I sew things by hand. Life-sized critters take me way too long. If you want me to go slightly bigger, let me know, but I will increase the price accordingly.

To reserve your commission, note me and we can discuss an estimate. If you are sure you want this, submit a down-payment to thueston@live.com equivalent to half the price of the commission.

SHOP POLICY
I will give you a time estimate. If three (3) days pass from the MAXIMUM time quote I gave you, you may contact me via note with a status request. If you harangue me significantly about the piece my muse dies.

I will get your piece done. I am a reliable creator and you can ask any of my previous clients for a review. Please respect the art and artist by granting me breathing room while I work.

NOTE TO PEOPLE ASKING FOR PATTERNS: ***I am happy to help people who are starting out on making their own plush toys with tips and ideas. HOWEVER I will not put my patterns up for public use. They are entirely my own and I develop new ones for every new plush. I am saving money for opening a clinical practice.

Sir Bregga and Lady Faatin by NickRoblesArt

AN UPDATE FOR SHINING ASCENSION

This was written by Darcie Little-Badger, my cowriter:

As I begin to write Shining Ascension Issue #2 (Hueston and I plan to release #1 and #2 together), it occurs to me that I haven’t made an official “project explanation” post. Today, I will address the following tantalizing questions:

1) What is Shining Ascension? (THE ORIGIN STORY)

2) What is the future of Shining Ascension? When will it be available? How many issues will be released?

3) Who is T. Hueston?

4) Who am I?!?

Okay, here we go, here we go, here we go!

1) THE ORIGIN STORY

About 4.5 years ago, I invented a text-based role-playing game. For those who are unfamiliar with text-based role-playing, I essentially used the power of writing and imagination to build a high fantasy playground for my friend T. Hueston. We went on fabulous adventures together. Make-believe: it’s not just for kids anymore!

One fateful day, Hueston met an artist named The Incredible Nick Robles. They became friends, and Hueston commissioned a scene from our game, below (some parts of the scene have been cut, to prevent spoilers hehe). Wow! That’s a lot of awesome! The full work is even better … if you’re curious, visit Nick’s website and poke around: www.nickroblesart.com/ As you can see, Nick has a knack for action, character design, and coloring. He’s truly incredible     :)

Fight!

Battle at sea! Art by Nick Robles.

Before long, inspired by Nick’s work, Hueston suggested, “Let’s make a comic book based on our game.” As a pessimist, I was reluctant. I did not know how well the game would translate to a comic book medium. Honestly, I’m still nervous about the project. It’s new territory, and I have an anxious streak. But Hueston convinced me that everything would be ok. Plus, Hueston pointed out that the world needs more diverse, kickass comic book characters. Our cast includes many POC and/or LGBTQA heroes, the kind of characters Hueston and I wish were more abundant in mainstream comic books. By the way, the protagonist Faatin comes from a matrilocal society that is partially inspired by precolonial Apache culture. Hey-o! Represent!

So Hueston, Nick, and I began the Shining Ascension project – the rest is history.

Faatin, Bregga, and Faatin’s pretty buddy: a page from the comic, by Nick Robles.

2) FUTURE OF THE COMIC

The Shining Ascension Issue 2 script is almost finished. Once Nick inks and colors that comic this year, we’ll release issues 1 and 2 together, freely available online. Hueston and I have planned a 6-issue arc. If we scrape together funding to pay Nick, we’ll release Issues 3-6 within a year. If we have no funding, the project will take longer. Either way, we’re completing this baby, believe you me.

3) WHO IS T. HUESTON

In Hueston’s words: “I am a veterinarian and artist with an interest in European warfare, arms and armor.” Check out Hueston’s art here:jarahamee.deviantart.com/

4) WHO AM I?!?!

Check out my little biography!

So our secret (kind of) comic project will now be revealed! The series is called Shining Ascension!

Expect magic, action, intrigue, kickass women, and maybe a little romance in this fantastical series! With the script and rough layout finished for issue one, we’re well on our way.

For details and some concept art, please see here!:

darcielittlebadger.wordpress.c…

I'm working together with Darcie Little Badger to help write and produce a high quality digital and print comic! The art will be painted and in full color like the painting by Nick Robles. The first issue will be in the works in only two weeks!

Issue 1 should be released around January 1st, and will be available free online. Every issue we publish will have a free digital copy available and hopefully a low-cost print copy as well.

We hope to use crowdfunding to help publish the rest of the miniseries (A total of 6 issues).

COMMISSIONS INFORMATION
*I use artificial fur for my fabric, though it is high quality
*I add wire for support in animals that have long skinny legs.
*I generally add patterns by sewing them in, I don't airbrush, which keeps the fur softer. It also raises the price for complex patterns. If you would prefer I can paint on some of the pattern, which reduces the cost.

NOTE TO PEOPLE ASKING FOR PATTERNS: ***I am happy to help people who are starting out on making their own plush toys with tips and ideas. HOWEVER I will not put my patterns up for public use. I may consider adding this option for some people if they want it.

I have a collection of super-realistic, soft, high quality woven fabric I am willing to incorporate into my commissions.

A lot of this fabric cost 50-80 dollars a yard, so I can't incorporate it into every commission.

Normal fabric of good quality is about 30 dollars a yard.

If you are interested, the amount and type of fabric I use will change the price of the soft sculpture, but add softness and probably a bit of realism as well.

Alternatively, if you have faux fur fabric you want me to use, you can send it to me, and I'll incorporate it and reduce the price of the commission accordingly, though I won't work with craft fur or low quality fabric, it tears too much and is difficult to work with.

Dance in the Vampire Bund

I heard that this series was extremely controversial because of the behavior of the main character, who is an ancient vampire with a very youthful body (She is very provocative at times), however, overall I found the series to be interesting and creepy, to generally be more sensically sound than most of the similar series. Akira, the main character who is a werewolf, was not a stupid character, and I enjoyed many of the side characters, even if some of the smaller plot points were a little ridiculous at times. I also had to say that those are some of the shortest skirts I've ever seen in a anime, and the tightest, as if they were constantly wet. I visited Japan two weeks ago, and no school has skirts that short or clingy XD. But besides that minor sidethought, I found it pretty enjoyable and interesting, especially for a 13 episode series, and all of the intrigue and powerlessness of the Vampire Queen.

Jubei-Chan

I thought this series was going to be utter nonsense, and to a point it is. It is one of those comedies that doesn't even take itself seriously enough to stop breaking the fourth wall, and random, inane things happen at intervals of about 15 minutes. It's a fun series with good characters who I actually cared about a little, and there is a lot of silly comic relief done by the wimpy samurai there.

So, I am back from Japan. It's beautiful and extremely hot there, I was surprised by all of the nature, particularly around the temples and shrines. We visited Tokyo, Kyoto, and a ton of other sites around Japan, and I bought tons of stuff. Mostly mini-figurines, and I have a neat collection of miniature wild canid animal figurines now, as well as a minifigurine of Horo from Spice and Wolf, and a wolf netsuke, as well as a small halloween figure set I like, which amuses me.

I was amazed by all of the Buddhist temples and monasteries, which were almost all incredibly beautiful, and their philosophy was very interesting.

I admit my favorite part was staying at the traditional hotels, and having tea and spending our time relaxing on mats with tea.

I'm almost done with the fox, and then I'll finish my other projects.
