The 143rd Shift: Nature's Call
Less that two hours later Krystal stirred, the unwelcome call of nature rousing her from an erotic dream. Not wishing to disturb her malleable girlfriend she carefully untangled herself from the living sheets lovingly wrapped round her body. Sitting on the edge of the bed she gently stroked the satiny faux fabric Brielle had transformed into.
Groggily getting to her feet she shuffled towards the bathroom. After just a few sluggish steps she lightly bumped into something. With her vision still bleary from sleep and dredging up enough awareness to recall she was in an unfamiliar bedroom she assumed it must be a piece of furniture. Moving to side step the obstruction she bumped into it again. Rather than make the same mistake thrice she reached out to find the blockade's boundary.
Her hands slid along the sides, the barrier easily wider than her arms' width. A subtle panic swirled in her gut. Rubbing the sleep from her eyes at first she saw nothing. Then
The 141st Shift: No More Secrets
"What the heck happened?!" Brielle exclaimed as they drove past the ruined guard house, the temporary gate closing behind them.
"We had uninvited guests," Pierrette groused.
Sensing Krystal's unease Brielle opted not to press for details, giving her girlfriend a comforting hug.
Turning onto a side-street the self-driving mini-van swung around the main building, coming to a stop inside a cavernous loading dock. On the elevated entrance Duncan, Greta, and Dr. Negasi, who had his hands resting on a wheelchair, waited.
"Duncan would like to speak with you while Dr. Negasi examines Krystal," Pierrette requested. "I know this is a hard ask, but I promise you can trust the doctor. And I'll be with her at all times."
"It's up to you," Brielle said to Krystal.
"If you t- trust them, then I'll trust them," she replied, nervously squeezing her encased arms.
Melting off her girlfriend Brielle left behind a doppelganger of the outfit Krystal had been wearing
In the weeks that followed their encounter with Zweithammer Brielle had left a hefty piece of herself with Krystal as a precaution. Depending on her girlfriend's whims she'd transformed that part into bits of jewelry, clothing, or even fully encased her.
Wishing to respect Krystal's privacy she'd done her best to limit her connection to that portion, dialing down her senses unless her girlfriend spoke directly to her. More than once it'd caused her to chuckle at the thought she was effectively some sort of wearable smart device as she typically only responded if Krystal spoke her name first.
Even with that reduction she was feeling a degree of intimacy with her girlfriend that almost seemed to transcend into the paranormal. When Krystal would come over after work and start talking about events in the office Brielle kept having a strong response of déjà vu despite her certainty she hadn't been paying attention to her girlfriend's workdays.
"It's weird," she said after one of
The First Shift: Breakthrough
"I made a new discovery! Come over & see! I'll be up in the lab so let yourself in."
Alyana read over the text message again as she parked in front of her friend's house. Brielle had been working for years to make her childhood dream of becoming an elastic superhero come true. Of course it would never happen but it had led Brielle to make some amazing discoveries in Materials Engineering, including a few new polymers that pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible.
She rang the doorbell to the modest two-story home. Even though she had a key she at least wanted to give Brielle warning she was coming
UPDATE: The opt-in period for the new sidebar has closed as of October 7th. Thank you to everyone who participated in this early opt-in period. The feedback we’ve received so far has been invaluable in helping us improve and optimize the sidebar. Please continue sharing your feedback! Moving forward, we’ll now be rolling out the new sidebar to a wider pool of deviants, so no more need to opt-in. Again, thanks so much to those who participated for helping us create a better DeviantArt experience!
You’re invited to try a brand new sidebar that gives you quick access to some of your favorite features and groups!
The Goal of The New Sidebar
There are several ways to browse and consume content on DeviantArt, and with this update, our goal was to create a consistent experience across Browse (New and Popular), Search, Daily Deviations, Topics, Groups, and most importantly, deviants you watch. Bringing more attention to Groups was a big part of this update, and we have plenty more planned
From the lip of a crimson vase of porcelain glazed to a glossy sheen, a beige sludge began to drip to the wooden surface beneath. Drip. Drip. Drip. Just three little drips of the viscous goo was all it took for it to start rushing out in a tide as if it were being poured from its vessel, the resulting puddle spreading out horizontally as it rippled and expanded. Even after the last few beads of fluid fell from the vase and into the enlarging mass, it never ceased to broaden, though the amoebic pond gradually settled on a rectangular shape. Eventually it was satisfied with its size, which had become vast enough that parts of the liquid sheet hung over and down, yet the sheet remained one piece. Suddenly it froze, putting an abrupt end to the trembling going on on its surface. Its color shifted from beige to white, but then stripes of red raced vertically along the synthetic fabric. Then horizontal stripes intercepted the vertical ones, these stripes composed of tiny red specks staggered
I've been lurking on Deviant Art for a number of years, enjoying the works of artists both prolific and occasional. I decided it was time to give a go at making some contributions of my own to the community I've followed for so long.
Thank you to everyone whose creativity and skill have inspired me to put my own efforts "out there".
[New Shifts for Metamorphosed to Malleability added Thursdays]
I was looking up some references and stumbled over a video on magnetic putty. The time lapse videos are utterly fascinating and nearly hypnotic to watch. There are quite a few of them on Youtube so be prepared should you venture forth to fall into a rabbit hole.
Just stumbled over this series. I haven't read the comics and I'm not sure how much of a role Lady Clay plays, but it's nice to see her back in action.
Edit: I wanted to add that this notion of Sondra sending out parts of herself to experience different aspects of life is something I toyed with very early in M2M once I decide Brielle could not just divide her body, but control those divisions.
She has commented on her desire to use her ability to see the world in ways only a shapeshifter could experience it. And though she feels very strongly about remaining in her current life I could see a possible set of side-stories where Brielle's wanderlust gets the better of her.
Edit2: Sorry! One last thing, just wanted to tag this video of Frank Cho inking Lady Clay. ^.^
During the October drawing challenge I was on it (almost) every day! But since completing it I've sort of meandered. Having that daily specific goal was a huge help. I learned simply saying "I'm going to draw something every day" without defining what that something is isn't enough for me. I end up staring at the paper, a hundred ideas swirling, unable to decide which, and just scribble something then call it done.
So I'm going to set daily goals like "Draw 10 Hands" for Mondays or "Draw 10 Feet" for Tuesdays. That way I have a concrete goal. (And if I happen to be inspired to draw other stuff too, well then awesome.)
I'm sharing this not as a "See what I'm going to do" post as I don't plan to submit these to DA, but more a "Maybe it will help you, too". Until I did the challenge I never knew how much I needed structure. I'd never tried something like it before and seeing how it help me to focus was a huge eye-opener.
