This image was selected by National Geographic to be featured in their Daily Dozen for the 1st week of August 2010. [link]
I found these two carpenter ants locked in this interesting embrace.. I couldn’t tell if they were fighting, kissing, or passing food along, but I couldn’t resist capturing such a candid moment. I was only able to get two shots and luckily this one came out well. I hope everyone likes it as much as I do.

Nice! These are two Camponotus planatus engaged in trophalaxis, the process of passing food along. It's always nice to see trophalaxis in ants.
