In the town of Rowsmandy there were many restrictions. For instance, there was a long, stone wall that looped around the town. Only the Grown-Ups knew why it was there, and only they knew what it was supposed to keep out. There was nothing wild or foreign in their town. They detested any new ideas or any new teachings. Oftentimes the town would even go hungry due to lack of outside warmth or wind or meat. The town had other rules that they had to follow besides staying in the wall. For instance, “No playing deep in the forest—the hunters may shoot you.” Or, “No feeding daisies to the horses, they only eat grass.” Or even, “No talking right now—the minister is praying!” In the village there was a little girl names Heather. She particularly hated the last rule I mentioned because she thought that people should only attend church if they wanted to.
