Early snow and thick clouds forced me to abandon my hopes for an indian summer in Bavaria this Oktober. But in order to deal with the new situation we decided to hike up the Karwendel mountains. On that day the weather seemed quite stable therefore we started our ascend through the "Dammkar" draw. The Dammkar is a very steep and risky route which during the winter has a high avalanche risk. As soon as we reached the ridge below the "Larchetfleckspitze" I started scouting the area, further up near the "westliche Karwendelspitze" I found my composition. We tried to stay up as long as possible in order to catch a slight blue hour / early dawn. On our way down the clouds already covered the valley and the Dammkar which made the descend much more treacherous! Halfway down we heard a avalance going off in the distance but as far as I can judge it was just a very tiny one, for the noise was relatively silent. But afterall we made it down the 1300m difference in altitude without a problem. I will link some snaps from our descend in the image commentary section later on.

This is absolutely gorgeous. This looks like something they'd want in the Lord of the Rings movies. Awesome clouds between the mountains and above. Beautiful blues and greys.
This looks like it would be a tough hike for sure. They say you're either a mountain person or an ocean person, but I think this picture could convert a few ocean coast dwellers.
Great work on this shot, and the trip.
