this picture was mostly just to test the brush feature of artrage and to see how the colors would blend. that's why I chose the high contrast in the colors - even though that might make it hard to look at the painting for a longer time.

and since it was "just a test", I kept it simplistic and stylized and stopped painting before I tried to add too detailed things - like animals - that I might have messed up.

have to agree on the grass, though. more of it might have given the tree a better foundation, now that I think about it. thanks for that suggestion.

and I might try my hand at a scene with (more) animals later. I'd probably go for a different style then, since I think that anything more than fairly stylized wouldn't really fit into this scene here.

as for what I could have done better:
I've been told that the primary eyes are a bit far apart, so that would be something to improve. another thing is the sting. that one turned out a little small. and then I'd add more details to the tail segments (those normally have ridges/lines lengthwise.
but apart from that the pattern is final.

I'll tell him about the tank idea. maybe there's something suitable around.
I'm all for making it even more realistic.

and yes. first time making a scorpion, but I had almost a year of crocheting experience at that time and I've had an idea about how to make its back for weeks (my brother had mentioned that he likes scorpions a while before he made the actual request ).
it was fairly easy to crochet - until I had to start on the legs. those took me about as long as the whole rest of the little beast.
