English 'Great Ship'

Another sketch of a sailing ship, this time it is and English "great ship" from the times of the Tudor dynasty (mid-XVth century). England had probably three such ships (all of them were flagships), which were somehow a link between a reliable but obsolete medieval carrack and the newborn galleon.

Drawn in about 6 hours during boring lessons. I used HB and 2B pencils on A4 paper.
Cheers :)

I'm trying to design a ship based from these kinds of ships, but it's sooooooooooooo hard for me. You make it look easy. :p haha

I really like it. I'm a bit of a ship nut, so this resembles the Henry Grade Adieu

Well done sir. :iconapplauseplz:

Too me it just looks like a copy of the portuguese great nau, neither a carrack nor a galleon.

The Flagship at the time was the 'Mary rose', shw was of the Great Ship class.

absolutely fantastic. It looks like the Mary Rose. the design revolutionalized naval combat in the tudor era. but her greatest advantage, the huge cannons that laid just above the waterline, prooved to be her greatest downfall when a swell came up and flooded the lower decks draging her and her entire crew to the bottom of the ocean while Henry 8th watched from land.

They made a ship like that, I think called the "Royal Rose" that was so topheavy it literally capsized in the mouth of the harbor.

You seem to be really into ships and historical events. This one looks really good. And I love your gallery.

Gorgeous. I'm in a bit of a ship phase right now, and I really admire this. :) The detail is amazing, and you really caught the beauty of the carrack.

You're really getting a sense of movement and style into these drawings now. They're evolving at a rate of knots (see what I did there? *grin*). Another instant fave.

I would really like to see you work on a water-colour or pastel soon. A subtle colouring would really suit your style :)

Severe lack of funds prevents me from trying out the watercolour ;) Maybe I'll do some pastel works at an art studio I attend (you pay and you get all sorts of media at once :) ). But for now I have a still life to finish :faint:

No na środku jeziora to rzeczywiście lepiej mieć wiatr niż go nie mieć... :P Ale jednakowoż nie pogardziłbym widokiem armady liniowców na redzie, dopiero co wyruszających w rejs :D

A no tak to nie :D
