Little mermaid is not amused.

.................................................................

I started this older picture in 2007 and finished it early this year. I worked on and off so I dont know how long it took me :)

Got the doll, missed the girl? Stories hiding in this work

With the lily pads, this reminds me of Hylas and The Nymphs by Waterhouse. Was this an inspiration? commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fil…;

BTW, I like your color palette on this. It's got a very moody look to it, while still looking alive and green.

The webbing in between the fingers is EXACTLY how I picture it is supposed to be. Also like the way she is looking, makes me curious about how she feels. Is she jealous, or is she angry? I dont know, I like art that makes you have to stop and think.

as beautiful as the characters in this piece are (love the expressions, the doll (little girl?) is absolutely haunting and the mermaid's expression is equally captivating) what I love most about this piece is how perfectly you represented the pool of water. I've never seen water look so realistic in a painting before w/o being over-exaggerated (hope that makes sense). No matter how long I stair at this piece (and I've been here a good 10 minutes before I started writing this) I keep going back to the water.
You are a true artist!

Ok.......I'm gonna go out on a limb here by assuming that the doll is a real girl. I dont remember ever seeing a porcelain doll with that pose. It also seems that the doll's hair and dress is moving. I think the mermaid is drowning a little girl!!!???!!!
